Teaching on Temptation
Thank you for joining me today on Enjoying Everyday Life. I’m teaching from the Word of God, and my prayer is that it brings life-changing transformation. We all face temptation, and I’ve been teaching on this subject recently.
One key thing to remember when facing temptation is that we can’t resist it on our own. We need God’s help. The first step when tempted to do something wrong is to pray: “God, help me resist this temptation.” I recommend praying every day, asking God to help you face any temptation that may come your way. Don’t assume that temptation won’t come, but be prepared for it. Whether it’s impatience, anger, or even greater sins, ask God for strength to resist.
The Role of Weakness in Temptation
James 1:12-16 teaches us that trials and temptations are part of life. We’re told that we’ll be blessed when we stand firm under temptation. The devil uses our weaknesses to draw us into sin. James tells us, “Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am tempted by God,’ because God is incapable of being tempted by evil, and He tempts no one.” Temptation comes when we’re drawn away by our own desires and passions.
As temptation progresses, if we don’t resist, it leads to sin. Sin, when fully grown, brings death—not physical death, but spiritual death, affecting our soul. Thank God for Jesus, our Redeemer, who forgives us when we repent.
The Trap of Sin
Satan uses clever traps to lure us into sin, much like bait placed in a trap. For example, this year, we set traps to catch raccoons that were damaging our yard. The raccoons were drawn in by the bait, just as people can be drawn into sin by temptation. No one who loves God will intentionally sin, but if the right bait is used, we might fall into temptation.
