A significant part of spiritual maturity is learning not to base your actions or identity on the expectations of others. If you continually strive to keep everyone happy, you’ll burn out. There comes a time when you must say ‘no’ to people so you can say ‘yes’ to God. This isn’t selfish; it’s obedient. God calls us to live deeper than our mind, will, and emotions—He invites us to operate from the spirit, where His voice becomes the loudest.
