Title: “Preparing for the Journey: A Reflection on Hebrews 12:1-2”

As we gather here tonight, let’s pause to reflect on just two powerful verses from Hebrews, chapter 12. We’re diving into a message titled “We’re Leaving Now,” a phrase that might resonate more deeply than we realize. This chapter reminds us that we’re all on a journey, one that calls for both purpose and preparation.

Let’s look together at Hebrews 12:1-2. I’ll begin with verse one, and then I invite you to join me for verse two. These verses speak of a “cloud of witnesses” surrounding us, urging us to cast aside anything that slows us down and to run with perseverance the path set before us.

I want to thank everyone for their participation last Sunday. I encouraged you all to read aloud so powerfully that people across Washington and Sacramento could hear—and they did! God moved through that message, reaching audiences beyond our expectations, including several media outlets. Some praised, some criticized, but all seemed captivated by the message’s reach and purpose.

Now, let’s return to tonight’s passage. Imagine yourself planning a big trip. There’s the excitement, but also a checklist of questions: “Where are we going?” “How do we prepare?” and, of course, “Who’s joining us?” My wife and I recently took a brief trip on our own, our first in a while without anyone else tagging along. It was a rare treat, but also a reminder of the importance of preparation.

Much like our journeys on earth, Hebrews 12 invites us to examine our spiritual path with the same intentionality. Are we carrying unnecessary burdens? Are we equipped for the journey? Have we made time for prayer and ensured our faith is strengthened? God calls us to be ready because our time here is finite. For those who are young, life may seem slow, while for others it feels like time is rushing by.

As we continue exploring Hebrews 12, let us remember to check our hearts and minds, grounding ourselves in faith and preparing for what’s to come. The journey is already underway, and with God’s guidance, we’re well-equipped for every step ahead.

And so, let’s walk together in faith, unburdened and steadfast, ready for whatever God has in store.
