The Book Of Revelation, The Jezebel Spirit & The End-Time Church

Jonathan Cahn continues through to the conclusion of the mystery of the Seven Churches of Revelation, including those believers have taken as being connected to the end times. Discover the revelations of Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea, and the Jezebel spirit.

The Spirit of Jezebel and the Warning to the Churches

Can we still speak today of a spirit connected to Jezebel? The woman herself is long gone—but spirits do not die. In the book of Revelation, we read of the church in Sardis, located in Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey). Sardis was once the capital of the Lydian Empire, known for its trade, its dyed wool, and its immorality. Today, the ruins stand in the Turkish village of Sart.

Christ says to the church of Sardis:

“I know your deeds. You have a reputation for being alive, but you are dead.”

This was a strong rebuke. The church carried the name of Christ but lacked His Spirit. And this warning is not only for Sardis—it applies to countless churches and denominations throughout history. Many began with fire and life but have grown cold, existing in name only. They say the right words, perform the right actions, and carry the name of Jesus, yet the flame is gone.

This danger is real for every believer. We can fall into simply going through the motions, losing the passion and presence of God. That is why Scripture warns us: “Strengthen what remains and is about to die.” Guard the flame. Protect your zeal, your love, your hunger for God.

Christ goes on to say:

“Remember what you have received and heard; keep it, and repent. If you are not alert, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I come.”

A few in Sardis had not defiled themselves, and they would walk with Him in white. The warning is clear: sin and defilement rob the church of its fire. What happened in Sardis is the same danger facing the modern church, especially in America. Instead of transforming the world, much of the church has been conformed to it. You are either the light shining into darkness, or you allow the darkness to overcome you.

But there is hope. Christ promises:

“The one who overcomes will be clothed in white garments. I will not erase his name from the Book of Life, but will confess his name before My Father and His angels.”

This is both a warning and a promise. Yes, a name can be blotted out of the Book of Life, but if you hold fast and overcome, your name will remain forever. Do not fear losing salvation daily—if you care about your walk with God, that itself is a sign of life. God warns, corrects, and calls us back so that we may overcome.
