You could have never told me as a teen mom that there would be ministry down on the inside of me.
I felt rejected. I felt like the church was definitely not a place for me I didn’t do everything the right way.
And then I realized that there was a weed connected to that.
And because there was a weed, there was someone else who needed to hear story, someone else who needed to understand that they are not the only 1 who has felt the way that I felt, then it gave me strength.
But I don’t think I would have that strength and less life didn’t go the way I planned for it to.
We were talking about, you know, our destiny’s kind of worked like gradually, then suddenly.
Yeah.
From nowhere to now here. It is quite amazing how god has brought both of your lives together and then what god is doing really relatively in in, you know, a couple years.
Yeah. Certainly. I think it speaks to the acceleration of god.
That not only does he restore, but you literally do not lose any time.
And so we have experienced such acceleration as we’ve really partnered together to dig within our purpose and to excavate everything that got placed on the inside of us.
Well, it and it’s it’s quite a full plate.
So when when you go back, and, you know, you guys fall in love, and you have a great love story.
But, you know, thinking about the fact that within a relatively short period of time, blended family, 2 churches, Denver, and Los Angeles.
I mean, wow. How how how have you been able to assimilate all of this that’s happening?
First of all, with you, I mean, you, as someone that’s helping manage the home, the mom, you have from 5 years old to
Well, from 2 years old to 21.
Hello? Yes. 2. So To 21.
Yes. I think that god has been so gracious to us as we blend our family because he’s really allowed us a way to kind of recognize 1 another’s strength and weakness and to kind of put everyone in position where they can win.
And so we’ve got great kids.
I think that that’s also been helpful to us you know, when we got together, we really felt like god’s anointing was on it.
And so when it came to the kids, we knew that as long as we were patient and didn’t force our will and our idea of what our family looked like and allowed god’s organic blending to take place that we would begin to grow.
And that’s what we’ve experienced.
No. It’s it’s it’s amazing. Yeah.
I love because everything that you both say carries really, a lot of credibility on many layers, not just that you’re anointed of god.
Not just that you have equity because you’ve been serving god.
This is not an overnight thing for both of you, but also that you’re carrying all of the issues that our culture, you know, feels every day, you know, the blended family, as you mentioned, just all of the dynamics of even, you know, the favor that’s come on women, and and where god is making up as it were.
Restoring time. So that both of you, it’s not just 1 of you, but both of you are just on high cylinder, high level demand upon your gifting.
PT, how has that ride been going so far?
It’s been it’s been incredible.
I’ve been stretched, you know, obviously taking over the second campus, in Denver, which is quite different from LA.
LA is a primarily millennial driven, church where, Denver’s more multi generational, and it’s somewhat in the Midwest, So it’s it’s challenged me to minister to a broader community.
And it’s awesome. And And what I love about it is that god never challenges you beyond your ability.
He challenges you according to your ability.
So there are things that he has placed on the inside of you that require certain environments for those things to come out.
And so, it’s been challenging, but also good.
I am defined by the giants that god places on in front of me because if he places the giant in front of me, no matter what that giant is, new ministry, a new marriage, raising a child or whatever it might be, the giant says I’m greater than it.
So with with the giant comes my promotion, I recognize it, and and that’s what I’ve been experiencing in this season.
Well, I wanna I wanna kinda put together in people’s minds, just really the dynamic of what what has happened.
First, let’s let’s look at LA again.
You are you are touching a, a segment of culture that the church hasn’t really done a good job connecting.
The millennials young, and then the entertainment industry where, you know, when I preach at your church, I’m looking, and I see faces.
I’m like, whoa, I’ve seen these faces before.
And then just the passion, of both the young and the entertainment.
You know, you can’t you can’t strategize for this.
You can’t sit down in a planning room and say, this is the market we’re going after.
How did that happen in And how have you been able to step into that role where you’re able to be a voice to both the young and people that are shaking and shaping our culture?
Yeah. I think it it really begins with obedience.
Because god, we were in a certain part of town, and then god told us to move to another part of town, which was actually very inconvenient.
But it was a clear instruction from god.
When we got there, the fastest growing demographic in the church were young artists, millennials, in arts and entertainment.
And so what god began to do was he began to give me language for them I think 1 of the reasons why, sometimes the church struggles with reaching certain sectors of the population is because the church doesn’t have the right language.
The church is speaking a Christianese or various things, which is wonderful for the church, but not when you’re reaching outside the walls.
And so for me, he gave, he gave the both of us, you know, the tongue to the learn for that generation.
And I think that whenever god is calling you, That means that he has a people assigned to your voice.
And so I think that’s why it was, there was a grace on it there was a people.
You had someone who was willing to go and someone who was willing to embrace the language to affect that community.
I love it. You think about it it triggers in my mind the, acts too where the Bible says that the Holy Spirit came upon them and they spoke in every man’s language.
We need that anointing now more than ever. Yes.
Because there’s a language of which We don’t understand, and we need god to give us that.
I I love that, pastor Sarah, first lady. You, I I you recently preached a message about the great escape.
And it it really awakens something inside me.
I think is is is part of the mandate on both of your life.
And that is to find that voice that connects you to your destiny.
You made the statement becoming the 1 for the we. Yeah.
In
other words, and break that down for us because I think that really helps us understand our destiny.
It’ll be a bit clearer.
Well, the premise of the whole message was about how Ezra went on behalf of the people of Israel to god in prayer.
Because he needed them to find a way of escape from what they were dealing with.
And so I really wanted to challenge people to not just see their life as random.
If you’re watching, don’t want you to think that your life is just random.
I don’t want you to think that you just logged on to TVN and that you’re just watching something that for that is for some else, you are someone’s great escape.
Consider this assigned the prayer to the answer to the prayer that you’ve been praying for.
You are someone’s great escape. What does that mean?
That means that the pain, the things that you’ve experienced in your life were not just for you.
It was for you to overcome so that you can then reach back and find the way connected to your experience.
And so I really had an opportunity in Denver to share them that when you recognize that you are someone’s great escape, it changes how you deal with relationships.
It changes how you speak to yourself.
It changes how you wake up each day in yourself in the mirror when you know there is a responsibility for me here on the earth.
I may not know where it is, but I know that there’s something connected to this pain, and I’m not gonna keep I’m not gonna stop until I figure out who that is.
Yeah. I love that. And you actually and you know that.
You know, you you you know who they are. Yeah. You know, you do you you’ve written, great books.
You do conferences for women, and it’s connected to the pain of why you you say it when you say I’m the 1 for the
Yeah. I’m the 1 for the teen mom. I’m the 1 for the divorcee.
I’m the 1 for the single mom. I’m the 1 for the church girl.
I’m the 1 for the preacher’s daughter.
I look at all of these things that I thought exiled me and made me different.
And I recognized that it was only so that I could reach other people who felt the way that I felt and tell them listen.
If I made it out and if I made it out, I mean, I have a real relationship with God.
I have actual confidence in who I am.
And because I found a way there’s a way for you to do it, I wanna be your great escape.
Yeah. PT, I wanna tell you something Thank god for your mother and grandmother. You’re like a Timothy.
Right. You’re here today. Wow. Because a grandmother and a mama believed in you and knew you had a future no matter what it looked like, on the journey to get here.
And I think that’s what people have to understand that there’s no mistakes that things don’t happen to you.
They happened for you.
So true. You know, I, my mom prayed for me, and of course, my grandmother, my great grandmother, And, I didn’t find out till later that there were times, there were moments where my mother prayed and the opposite to her prayers began to happen.
What do you do when when you pray?
And you believe god and you’ve got all the faith in the world to see what you’re asking for coming to pass and then the opposite happened.
And that would happen many times.
But my mom had a word, from god, and the word literally was that that I would preach.
You know, I would be, you know, out of trouble and I would preach the gospel.
And, and, you know, just a man of god gave him a random man of god, gave her that word, And it took 7 years for that word to come to pass, and she did not say anything to me about it.
She held that word in her heart, and she held onto it, even during times where that word was being attacked by circumstances.
Sometimes the enemy will send circumstances to try to eat up that word, but she hid that word in her heart.
And then that word came to pass and unfolded.
Not only that word but the words that were connected to that word, I just wanna honor my mother, for standing on that word.
I got you. I love it. No.
I think every every great man and god, a woman, god starts with a mom and a grandmother is.
You’re exactly right. When you talk about the scripture that you is really the cornerstone of your mandate, you know, Jeremiah 29 11, when you think about it, in in the in the context of it, that was written 70 years before it would manifest.
Yeah. God was saying I want you to remember that when you go through 70 years as a nation of pain and suffering, just remember that I knew you, the plans that I have for you are good.
And that’s where I think people lose hope is when the opposite happens When when when someone gives you a word and says, god has plans for you, not evil, not to do good, and then you go through 70 years of evil.
And you have to think, no, this is not right. It is in fact is right.
I Sarah, I think about you.
I you both of you great praying parents, of a mother and a grandmother, you, the pain of what it must have felt to to see a seemingly the opposite.
The circumstances mocking as it were your mom and dad’s faithfulness to pray for you.
You you face that.
For sure, I grew up obviously in a household where prayer and church were very much a constant in my life, but I think that 1 of the misconceptions about being a Christian is that once I give my life to Jesus that I’m not gonna feel any more pain when in actuality, when you give your to Jesus, that’s really when you begin to have all of these things come to the surface.
And
I believe that god puts us in circumstances for those things to come to the purpose so that we can become the person worthy of the purpose he has for our life.
And so you could have never told me as a team mom that there would be ministry down on the inside of me.
I felt rejected. I felt like the church was definitely not a place for me because I didn’t do everything the right way.
And then I realized that there was a we connected to that.
And because there was a we, there was someone else who needed to hear my stories, someone else who needed to understand that they are not the only 1 who is felt the way that I felt, then it gave me strength, but I don’t think I would have had that strength unless life didn’t go the way I planned for it to.
Mhmm. And I think that that is such a word for for anyone really who’s watching and you’re saying, listen.
My life is crazy right now.
I can’t understand how any good can come out of that I would say to stop looking at the circumstances and dare to look within who am I becoming as a result of my need to survive?
Who am I becoming as a result of my need depressed in like never before.
God, what are you trying to show me in the midst of this storm?
And when we surrender everything, even that I idea of how our day should go, how our marriage should look, how our kids should be raised over to god and say, show me, teach me, I wanna learn.
I wanna be a servant in this process, then I believe that we begin to get clues about our purpose.
I believe that. You know, PT, there’s There there is so many people locked down and polarized by their mistakes and by their failures.
I want us to believe. I want you to speak to, the grandmother and the mom.
That is feeling as if their prayers are falling to the ground. Yeah.
They’re tripping over them and that nothing is going to happen. You were there. Yeah.
I think that the the best, word to sum it all up is Hebrews 10 and 35 which says, cast not therefore away your confidence, wherein there’s great reward for you have need of patience that after you’ve done the will of god, you show inherit the promise.
What it’s saying is it says, first of all, cast not therefore away your confidence.
That word that was translated confidence is the word it can be better translated. Expectation.
It says, don’t cast away your expectation. You know, hope deferred makes the heart sick.
When we are disappointed or let down, we have the tendency to surrender our And, and the and the word says that that you can’t cast away your expectation because therein in that expectation is your reward.
In other words, if you can hold on to the word that god has given to you and and let that see the word is strong enough to withstand your disappointment.
Wow.
You just gotta make sure you don’t fumble the word. The word It is stronger than what happens.
The word is the rock. It was settled from the beginning of time, and I know that we might get weary but the Bible says, don’t get weary in your well doing for induced season.
You are going to reap if you don’t give up. So keep sowing. Keep sowing expectation. Keep sowing faith.
Keep sowing inspiration and encouragement. Keep speaking like my parents did. Keep speaking over that this shall come to pass.
And when the enemy comes in like a flood and tries to talk you out of what god has given to you, when god gives your word, he is giving you something.
You you literally have something. Faith is the substance of things hoped for.
The evidence of things not seen fight for it, fight through your tears, fight through your disappointment.
Hold on to that word because in the end, it is going to speak.
Be like Anna and say, you know what?
I’m not gonna die until I see what I believe God for manifest in front of my eyes.
