Jerusalem in Bible Prophecy: What the End Times Mean for Israel
Jerusalem stands at the center of biblical prophecy and God’s eternal plan for humanity. Scripture declares that Jesus Christ will return to this very place. His feet will once again stand on the Mount of Olives, the same mountain from which He ascended into heaven. Christ’s Second Coming is deeply connected to Jerusalem, for this city will become the center of His earthly reign during the Millennium.
The thousand-year reign of Christ on earth will be established in Jerusalem. This holy city will serve as the Messiah’s millennial capital, and the future temple will stand as a memorial to His redemptive sacrifice.

What role does Jerusalem play in the prophetic events unfolding before our eyes? Jerusalem is woven like a golden thread throughout the pages of biblical history and future prophecy. It is impossible to understand the end times without understanding the significance of this city.
Join David Jeremiah for this special prophecy edition of Turning Point as he explores one of the greatest signs of the end times: Jerusalem, A Geographical Prophecy.
Dr. Jeremiah reflects on the incredible privilege of witnessing the rebirth of the state of Israel in 1948 when he was only seven years old. Since then, he has watched prophecy continue to unfold, especially as Jerusalem has regained global prominence. As prophecy scholar Randall Price observed, Jerusalem is now set to become the stage for God’s final prophetic drama.
Jerusalem is sacred to Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. It is mentioned more than 800 times in Scripture, making it the most referenced city in the Bible. By comparison, Babylon the second most mentioned city appears only a fraction as often. Once you recognize Jerusalem’s importance in Scripture, you begin to see it everywhere throughout God’s Word.
Jerusalem is God’s city.
One reason Jerusalem is so significant is because it is a central city. Just as the heart is central to the human body, Jerusalem is central to Israel and to God’s prophetic plan. No other city in history has captured the attention of the world like Jerusalem.
The prophet Ezekiel declared:
This is Jerusalem; I have set her in the midst of the nations. text This is Jerusalem; I have set her in the midst of the nations.
Jerusalem stands at the center of human history and divine purpose. God loves Jerusalem. Satan opposes Jerusalem. Jesus wept over Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit descended in Jerusalem. The nations are drawn to Jerusalem. And one day, Jesus Christ will return to Jerusalem to reign as King.
The destiny of the world is connected to the future of Jerusalem.
Scripture teaches that Jerusalem was specifically chosen by God. In the book of Deuteronomy, God repeatedly declares that He chose Jerusalem as the place where His name would dwell. Unlike any other city on earth, Jerusalem carries God’s divine designation and eternal purpose.
For believers who visit Jerusalem, the experience is often overwhelming. Walking the streets where Jesus taught, performed miracles, confronted His enemies, and gave His life creates a powerful awareness that this city belongs to God in a unique and eternal way.
Jerusalem became Israel’s capital under King David more than 3,000 years ago and has remained central to Jewish identity ever since. Even through centuries of exile, occupation, and persecution, Jewish communities continued to live there and regard Jerusalem as their eternal capital.
In modern history, another prophetic milestone occurred when the United States officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and moved its embassy there from Tel Aviv. This historic event marked another step in the unfolding of biblical prophecy.
The Second Coming of Jesus cannot be separated from Jerusalem. Nearly every major end-times event connected to Christ centers around this city. Scripture assures believers that Jerusalem will continue to exist despite the threats and conflicts surrounding it today.
From the southern steps of the Temple Mount, Dr. Jeremiah often looks toward the Mount of Olives the place where Jesus ascended into heaven. According to prophecy, Christ will return to that very mountain.
The Bible declares:
His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives. text His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives.
Jerusalem will become the capital of Christ’s millennial kingdom, the center of His righteous government over the earth for one thousand years.
But earthly Jerusalem points toward something even greater the New Jerusalem.
The book of Revelation describes the New Jerusalem descending from heaven, prepared by God as the eternal dwelling place of His people. This heavenly city will replace the old order forever.
The beauty of the New Jerusalem is beyond human imagination. Scripture describes foundations adorned with precious stones, gates made of pearl, and streets paved with pure gold. The glory of the city will not come from the sun or moon, but from the presence of Jesus Christ Himself the Lamb of God and the Light of the World.
At the center of the city flows the River of Life, and nearby stands the Tree of Life, first seen in the Garden of Eden. Its leaves will bring healing and everlasting well-being to God’s people.
Yet the greatest wonder of heaven will not be the streets of gold or the gates of pearl. The greatest joy will be seeing Jesus face-to-face.
Revelation declares:
“They shall see His face. text They shall see His face.
In that moment, every earthly sorrow will disappear in the overwhelming presence of Christ.
So how should believers respond to these prophetic truths?
First, remain faithful in prayer for Israel and Jerusalem. Scripture commands believers to pray for the peace of Jerusalem. Pray for Jews, Palestinians, Christians, and all who call this land home. True peace will only come through Jesus Christ.
Second, live with holiness and spiritual urgency. As the world grows darker, Christians are called to stand firmly in truth and reflect the character of Christ. Prophecy should not produce fear it should inspire godly living and faithful service.
Third, keep your eyes on Jerusalem. The Middle East remains the prophetic focal point of world events. The shifting alliances and conflicts surrounding Israel remind us that God’s prophetic timeline continues to move forward exactly as Scripture foretold.
Dr. Jeremiah also shares the testimony of Kathie Lee Gifford, whose first visit to Israel deeply transformed her faith. During a trip to the Valley of Elah, where David defeated Goliath, her husband Frank Gifford experienced a powerful realization: religion without a relationship with God is empty.
That truth remains essential today.
Jerusalem may be the center of religion, but Jesus Christ is the center of true faith.
Do not settle for religion alone. A relationship with Jesus Christ is what brings salvation and eternal life. Invite Him into your heart. Ask Him to forgive your sins and become the Lord of your life.
Religion may give the appearance of faith, but only a genuine relationship with Christ leads to heaven.
Jerusalem will always remain central to God’s prophetic plan, but the most important question is this: Is Jesus Christ the center of your life?
The Bible declares that one day Christ will return to Jerusalem and establish His kingdom on earth. Those who place their faith in Him can live with confidence, hope, and the assurance of eternity in His presence.
As Dr. Jeremiah reminds us, Jerusalem is not only the city of prophecy it is the future capital of the King of Kings.
