When Jonathan Got Thrown Off A Horse | Jonathan Cahn Sermon
Overcoming Fear Through Faith: Trusting God in Life’s Storms
The horse suddenly began galloping wildly into the forest, completely out of control. I was on its back as it leaped over fallen logs. It felt like a scene from a bad movie. The instructors stood there with their mouths open in shock. I was terrified. I thought I was going to die. My life was flashing before my eyes. I imagined a deadly collision.
In desperation, I pulled back on the reins. The horse reared up dramatically—just like in the movies—and threw me off.
That frightening moment reflects something much deeper about fear and faith.
God Is Your Protection — Do Not Fear
Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly says, “Do not fear.” Why? Because He is with us.
In Genesis, God tells Isaac, “Fear not, for I am with you.” The presence of God is the antidote to fear. Fear of people, fear of circumstances, fear of the unknown—these lose their power when we remember that the Almighty is with us.
If God is with you and someone comes against you, they are coming against Him. When the Creator of the universe stands beside you, what do you truly have to fear?
It is like a mouse who has a lion as a friend. The mouse does not need to be afraid anymore.
Shift Your Focus from the Problem to God’s Presence
One powerful way to overcome fear is to shift your focus.
Instead of dwelling on the problem, dwell on the presence of God. Meditate on His nearness. Sometimes victory does not begin with solving the problem—it begins with changing where you place your attention.
God told Isaac not only, “Do not fear,” but also, “I will bless you.” There is hope even in hardship. Even difficult situations can become blessings in the end. When you truly hold onto that promise, fear loses its grip.
Psalm 23: The Cure for Anxiety
Psalm 23 declares:
“I will fear no evil.”
Why?
“For You are with me.”
Even when walking through the valley of the shadow of death—through dark, painful, or frightening situations—we are not alone. God’s rod and staff comfort us. He is our protector, provider, and shepherd.
A sheep without a shepherd is anxious and vulnerable. But with a shepherd, the sheep can rest in peace.
Security in God’s Presence
We have a small white dog named Shimchon—his name means Samson or “sunshine.” He looks like a little lamb. When he sleeps on our bed, he always presses himself against one of us. Why? Because he feels secure.
When he feels our presence, he knows he is safe.
In the same way, when we sense God’s presence, we feel peace. We know we are protected. If we live in fear, it may be because we are forgetting who is with us.
God says, “I am with you. Therefore, do not fear.”
Be Still and See the Salvation of the Lord
In Exodus 14, the Israelites were trapped. The Egyptian army was approaching with chariots, ready to destroy them. The situation looked hopeless.
Yet God said, “Do not fear. Be still, and see the salvation of the Lord.”
In Hebrew, “salvation” is Yeshua.
Instead of focusing on the crisis, focus on Yeshua—on God’s saving power—in every situation.
There was a season in my life after college when everything seemed to fall apart. It was one of the hardest times I had ever faced. I felt no peace. I had a small plaque showing the Messiah standing on the water, saying, “Be still.”
I would picture Him in the storm.
If Jesus is in the boat, the boat will not sink.
Victory Before You See It
God told Joshua not to fear the enemies in the land because, “I have delivered them into your hand.”
Notice the wording: I have delivered them.
The victory had not yet happened physically, but spiritually it was already accomplished.
Sometimes the problem looks overwhelming. But God says the battle is already won—even if you cannot yet see it.
As Scripture declares:
“Thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph.”
Final Thought: Faith Over Fear
Fear is powerful—but faith is stronger.
When you focus on God’s presence instead of your problems, fear begins to fade. When you remember that the Almighty walks with you, anxiety loses its control.
No matter what storm you face, remember:
If God is with you, you have nothing to fear.
