The Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse: The Book Of Revelation | Jonathan Cahn Sermon
The vision of the four horsemen in the Book of Revelation is often misunderstood, especially when it comes to the identity of the first rider on the white horse, whom some have mistakenly identified as the Messiah; however, a careful and consistent reading of Scripture reveals that this figure cannot be the Messiah, because he appears as one among four agents of judgment rather than as the supreme and sovereign
Lord who stands above all, and because his marks the beginning of global turmoil rather than the triumphant return of Christ described later in Revelation, where the true Messiah comes not to initiate destruction but to end it and establish His kingdom; instead, the first horseman more convincingly represents conquest and possibly the
Antichrist, a deceptive figure who imitates righteousness, wears a crown, and advances power across the earth, setting the stage for the judgments that follow, including the second horseman on the red horse who removes peace and unleashes war and bloodshed, the third on the black horse who brings famine, scarcity, and economic collapse where a full day’s labor barely sustains life, and the fourth on the pale green horse symbolizing death, disease, and widespread devastation, all of which align with recurring prophetic patterns found throughout the
Bible in passages from Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and even the teachings of Jesus about the last days, where war, famine, pestilence, and upheaval signal a world under judgment; yet, while this prophetic imagery is sobering and intense, it ultimately serves not to instill fear in those who belong to God but to awaken spiritual awareness, because Scripture consistently affirms that those who are in Him are not appointed to wrath but to salvation, and therefore the message behind the four horsemen is not only about coming judgment but also about the urgent call to discern truth from deception, to remain steadfast in faith, and to recognize that beyond all earthly chaos stands the unshakable authority of God,
whose purposes move history toward redemption and whose power ensures that darkness, no matter how overwhelming it appears, will never have the final word.
