Set Apart for Holiness (Full Sermon) | Joseph Prince
Understanding Your Identity in Christ: Living Set Apart Through God’s Grace
The Bible teaches that believers are a set-apart people, chosen by God to live a different kind of life. To be “set apart” or holy does not simply refer to outward behavior it means living a life free from depression, fear, anxiety, and worry, and instead experiencing the peace of God that guards the heart and mind. True holiness is not about striving; it is about living in the fullness of God’s life.
However, the enemy the devil constantly tries to challenge this truth. He reminds people of their failures, thoughts, and past behavior, attempting to convince them that their identity is based on performance. But God’s way is completely different. In God’s kingdom, identity comes first, and performance follows. When a person truly understands that they are loved by God, their life begins to reflect that truth naturally.
A powerful example of this is seen in the story of David and Goliath. It took someone who knew he was deeply loved someone who understood his identity to defeat a giant. In the same way, when believers know they are God’s beloved, they gain the confidence and strength to overcome challenges and live a victorious life.
The Transforming Power of Grace
Many people say that grace does not give permission to sin and that is true. But the deeper truth is that people already struggle with sin apart from grace. What truly transforms a life is not human effort, but the grace of God.
In Titus chapter 2, the Bible declares that the grace of God, which brings salvation, has appeared to all people. This grace is not just a concept it is revealed through Jesus Christ. More importantly, Scripture says that grace itself teaches us to reject ungodliness and worldly desires.
This is a key truth: it is not human teaching alone that changes a person, but the grace of God working within them. When people rely only on their own effort, they fall back into weakness. But when they receive and understand grace, transformation begins from the inside out.
Grace is a powerful teacher. It works internally, changing the heart rather than merely modifying behavior. God is not interested in external performance alone He desires true heart transformation.
Encountering God’s Presence Brings Real Change
When a person encounters the presence of Jesus Christ, something profound happens. There is a spiritual impartation an inner change that cannot be explained by human effort. In that moment, burdens begin to lift, and transformation begins.
Grace has the power to:
- Lift people out of darkness
- Break depression and fear
- Bring healing and restoration
- Renew the mind and heart
This transformation is not forced it flows naturally from experiencing God’s love and goodness.
You Are God’s Beloved: The Foundation of Victory
One of the most important truths in the Christian life is understanding identity. The Bible consistently refers to believers as:
- Beloved
- Saints
- Holy brothers and sisters
These are not titles to earn they are identities given by God.
Even before Jesus performed any miracles, God the Father declared, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” This shows that identity is established before performance.
The enemy, however, always tries to remove this truth. When tempting Jesus, he said, “If you are the Son of God,” deliberately leaving out the word “beloved.” This reveals a powerful insight: the enemy cannot succeed when a person is secure in God’s love.
When people lack a strong sense of identity, they become vulnerable to temptation, insecurity, and destructive behaviors. But when they know they are loved by God, they gain strength, confidence, and stability.
Holiness Is Who You Are, Not What You Strive For
The Bible calls believers “holy,” not because they are perfect in behavior, but because they are set apart by God. Holiness is not something to achieve it is something to live out.
Instead of striving to become holy, believers are called to:
- Recognize that they are already made righteous in Christ
- Walk in that identity daily
- Allow God to transform their lives from within
This shift changes everything. When people understand that they are already accepted and complete in Christ, they stop striving and begin living in peace.
Victory Over Fear and Death Through Christ
Through His death and resurrection, Jesus Christ defeated the power of death and freed believers from fear. The Bible explains that the fear of death keeps people in bondage, but Christ has broken that power.
Believers are no longer controlled by fear because:
- Death has been defeated
- Eternal life is secured
- Their identity is rooted in Christ
This brings freedom, confidence, and peace in everyday life.
The Power of Words: Life and Death in the Tongue
Scripture teaches that the power of life and death is in the tongue. Words shape reality, influence emotions, and affect spiritual outcomes.
Many people unknowingly speak negatively, reinforcing fear and defeat. But believers are called to speak life, faith, and truth.
When aligned with God’s Word, speech becomes a powerful tool for:
- Encouragement
- Healing
- Faith-building
- Spiritual growth
Living the High Life of God
To live as a set-apart person means embracing the life God has prepared a life marked by:
- Peace instead of anxiety
- Faith instead of fear
- Joy instead of heaviness
- Confidence instead of insecurity
This is the “high life” of God not a life of pride, but a life of divine purpose, identity, and freedom.
