15 Minutes in the Word with Joyce Meyer – Pursuing What Matters Most

Welcome to 15 Minutes in the Word with New York Times bestselling author Joyce Meyer!

Have you ever felt like you’re constantly chasing something—whether success, relationships, or material things—yet never quite satisfied? While having goals and desires isn’t wrong, what should our first priority truly be?

In today’s message, Joyce shares an important truth: No matter what we pursue in life, we will only experience real joy and peace when we seek God first.

A Lesson on Pursuit: Joyce’s Personal Story

The other day, my calm and patient husband, Dave, asked me to trim the back of his neck with clippers—something I do all the time. While doing so, I noticed a couple of stray hairs and decided to “fix” them. But instead of just trimming, I went in a little too close and took a chunk out of his hair!

Dave wasn’t too happy. He told me, “If I did that to you, you’d have a fit!”—which is rare for him since he’s usually so laid-back. I apologized over and over, and eventually, he forgave me.

This experience taught me a valuable lesson: Pursuing the wrong things can lead to unexpected consequences.

What Are You Truly Seeking?

When my time on earth is up, what will I want most? Not wealth, success, or possessions—but to be right with God. I want to have peace with Him, knowing I’m ready to meet Him without fear. I also want to be surrounded by people who love me.

So, ask yourself:
What am I spending most of my time and energy on?
What do I talk about the most?
What am I truly seeking in life?

The Bible only tells us to seek a few specific things:
Seek God
Seek righteousness
Seek the Kingdom of God
Seek to walk in love

Nowhere does Scripture command us to seek things. Even good desires—like wanting a loved one to be saved—should not replace our ultimate pursuit of God Himself.

Take a moment today to reflect. What are you seeking most in life? If it’s not God, it’s time to realign your focus—because only He can bring true peace, fulfillment, and joy.
