How To Redeem Your Time | Jonathan Cahn Sermon

How Can We Pray For You? Have you signed up yet?

In this fallen world, our time is limited and precious. Unlike in heaven, where eternity removes the urgency of time, life on Earth is marked by setbacks, limitations, distractions, and the reality of death. These challenges make it essential to use our time wisely. The Bible reminds us in Ephesians 5:15-16, “Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.”

To “be careful how you walk” means to live intentionally, choosing wisdom over foolishness. Time is one of our most valuable resources; it cannot be replaced or regained once lost. Unlike material possessions, time contains the essence of our actions and decisions. Each moment is a gift, and with each passing day, our time on Earth grows shorter.

Despite living in an age filled with time-saving devices, we often feel more rushed and time-starved than ever. How is it that with modern conveniences, we have less time than previous generations? The truth is, much of our time is wasted because we forget its eternal significance. While the world focuses on time management for success or wealth, believers are called to view time through the lens of eternity.

We are here not to amass earthly treasures but to fulfill eternal purposes. The way we use our time directly impacts our spiritual growth and the legacy we leave for God’s Kingdom. Great figures of faith—like Moses, Paul, and others—understood the importance of redeeming their time for the Lord. They lived with purpose, knowing that their days were numbered.

Ephesians 5:14 urges us: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” This is a call to spiritual awakening. Many live unaware of the brevity of life, lulled into complacency by the illusion that time is endless. This false sense of abundance leads to wasted opportunities.

The Greek term translated as “make the most” of your time can also mean “purchase” or “redeem.” It suggests that time has a cost—if we fail to value it, we risk losing it. To redeem time means to treat each moment as precious, understanding that our days and hours are fleeting.

So how do we redeem our time?

  1. Live with intention. Recognize that your time is a gift from God, meant to be used for His glory.
  2. Prioritize eternal purposes. Focus on what matters most—your relationship with God, serving others, and living out your calling.
  3. Avoid distractions. Be mindful of the things that consume your time but do not add value to your life or faith.
  4. Embrace spiritual alertness. Stay awake to the reality that this life is temporary, and each moment counts toward eternity.

Let us remember: time is a resource entrusted to us by God. How we use it determines not only our earthly impact but also our eternal rewards. Make the most of every opportunity, for the days are fleeting, but the purposes of God are forever.
