Alistair Begg Daily Devotional – October 16, 2026
Some mornings you wake up with a weight on your chest that you can’t quite name. The news feels heavy, the to‑do list is long, and your heart wonders if God really sees what you are carrying today. As you pause to read this, picture your Savior not far away and disinterested, but near, listening, and kind. Today, let this devotional be a quiet place where your soul can breathe again, where Scripture steadies your steps, and where prayer lifts your eyes from what overwhelms you to the God who never fails. You are not alone; the Lord is present in this very moment, ready to meet you with fresh mercy and practical help for real life.
Anchored by a Faithful Word
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8, ESV) In a world that changes by the hour, this verse is like a solid handrail on a swaying bridge. The Jesus who saved you, who met you when you first believed, has not altered His character, His promises, or His love for you. The economy shifts, relationships change, your own emotions rise and fall—but Christ remains unshaken. When fear whispers that your circumstances are too complicated or your failures too many, this word answers back: the same Savior who carried you through every past valley is holding you right now and will not let you go.
Walking in Steady Hope Today
Because Jesus never changes, you do not have to live at the mercy of your feelings or the headlines. You can choose—sometimes moment by hard moment—to plant your confidence in who He is, not in what you see. That means preaching truth to your heart: “Lord, You are the same, so I will trust You the same.” Maybe for you that looks like opening your Bible before you open your phone, repeating a verse on your commute, or whispering a short prayer before each meeting. Let your faith show up in small, steady decisions: forgiving when you would rather stay hurt, serving when you feel unnoticed, and thanking God even in what you don’t yet understand. These everyday choices form a quiet but powerful testimony that Christ really is enough.
Drawing Near in Faith and Surrender
Father, today we bring You our doubts, distractions, and desires for spiritual growth. Strengthen our faith where it is thin, and deepen our roots in Your Word. Teach us to trust You even when prayers seem unanswered and the way forward is not clear. Holy Spirit, convict us gently where we have grown cold, and restore in us a simple, childlike dependence on Jesus. May our thoughts, words, and actions be shaped by Your truth, not by fear or frustration. Lead us to confess sin quickly, receive grace humbly, and walk in obedience joyfully. As we grow in Christ, let our lives point others to the hope that is found only in Him.
Covering Our Homes with God’s Peace
Lord, we lift our families and loved ones to You. Bring peace where there has been tension, and tenderness where hearts have grown distant. Heal old wounds, soften hard words, and restore broken trust. For spouses, give unity, patience, and deep affection rooted in Christ. For children and grandchildren, draw them to Yourself, protect them from deception, and surround them with godly friends and mentors. Guard our homes from the enemy’s schemes of division and discouragement. Let our houses be places where Your name is honored, Your Word is read, and Your love is felt in the way we speak, forgive, and care for one another.
Strength for Bodies, Minds, and Hearts
Gracious Healer, we place our health in Your hands. For those battling chronic pain, serious diagnoses, or quiet anxiety, pour out Your comfort and strength. Grant wisdom to doctors, clarity in treatment decisions, and endurance for every appointment and sleepless night. For weary minds, speak peace over racing thoughts and relentless worries. Calm our hearts when fear about the future rises. Help us care for our bodies wisely—with rest, nourishment, and balance—remembering that we are temples of Your Holy Spirit. Above all, give us the assurance that no illness, weakness, or limitation can separate us from Your love or keep You from fulfilling Your purposes in our lives.
Inviting God into Work and Provision
Lord, You see every workplace, classroom, and job search represented here. We surrender our careers, responsibilities, and dreams to You
