Holding On to Hope When Your Heart Feels Heavy – Lysa TerKeurst Daily Devotional for October 10, 2026

If you woke up this morning feeling like life is heavier than your heart can handle, you are not alone. Maybe there are unanswered prayers, complicated relationships, or quiet fears you don’t even know how to put into words. On days like this, the enemy wants you to believe you’re forgotten, overlooked, or somehow “too much” for God to deal with. But right here, on this October 10, 2026, the Lord is leaning toward you with tenderness, inviting you to bring it all into His presence. This devotional, inspired by the honest, hope-filled tone of Lysa TerKeurst’s ministry, is an invitation to stop pretending you’re okay and instead rest in the arms of the God who truly sees you, understands you, and will not walk away.

Anchored by a Promise

“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18, NIV) This verse is not a vague comfort—it is a specific promise. “Close” means near enough to hear whispered prayers and feel unspoken ache. “Saves” means He doesn’t just notice your pain; He moves toward it with power and compassion. When your spirit feels crushed—by disappointment, betrayal, loss, or uncertainty—God’s nearness is not based on how strong your faith feels today. It is grounded in His unchanging character. He does not shame you for being weary. He gathers your tears as evidence of what He intends to heal.

When Life Doesn’t Match Your Prayers

It’s hard when the story you’re living doesn’t match the prayers you’ve been praying. You may wonder, “Did I miss God? Did I do something wrong?” The enemy loves to twist delay into a false accusation against God’s goodness. But Scripture shows us time and again that waiting seasons are often the most sacred places of growth. In the in-between, God refines motives, deepens trust, and gently loosens your grip on outcomes you can’t control. Practically, today you can choose one small step of faith: bring God the exact sentence you’re afraid to say. “Lord, I’m scared I’ll always feel this lonely.” “Lord, I’m angry that this hasn’t changed.” Then, instead of rushing past it, pause and invite Him into that specific fear or wound. That is where healing begins—at the point of deepest honesty, not polished performance.

Leaning Into Faith When Feelings Waver

Father, today we bring You the shaky parts of our faith. We confess that we don’t always feel strong, brave, or hopeful. Sometimes we doubt, compare ourselves to others, or wonder if You’ve forgotten us. But we choose to trust what is true over what we feel. Grow in us a faith that is not built on circumstances but on Your character. Teach us to run to Your Word instead of our worries. Help us practice daily surrender—opening our clenched fists, releasing our timelines, and trusting that You are working in ways we can’t yet see. Deepen our roots so that when winds blow, we bend but do not break. Let our faith not be a performance but a relationship—with You at the center, holding us steady when our hearts feel fragile.

Covering Our Homes With Peace

Lord, we place our families before You—spouses, children, parents, siblings, and every person who feels like home to us. Where there is tension, speak peace. Where there is silence, open safe, honest conversation. Heal old wounds that still shape reactions today. Guard our homes from bitterness, harsh words, and emotional distance. Help us love one another with patience, humility, and kindness. Give us the courage to apologize quickly and forgive freely. Let our homes be places where Your presence is felt—in the way we listen, in the way we serve, and in the way we speak life over one another. Surround every household represented here with unity, understanding, and the gentle atmosphere of Your Spirit.

Strength for Our Bodies and Hearts

Jesus, You know every ache, diagnosis, and private battle. For those struggling with illness, chronic pain, or fatigue, we ask for Your healing touch and sustaining strength. Guide doctors, medications, and treatment plans. Calm racing thoughts, anxiety, and sleepless nights. For those carrying emotional scars—grief, trauma, depression, or hidden shame—be the gentle Healer of their souls. Renew minds
