When God Swore by God | Jonathan Cahn Sermon
When God Swore by God
“The Shemitah bears witness that the land and, for that matter, the earth, belong to God. It is only harmful to man as a steward. God is sovereign. His extends also to the realms of money, finances, economies, and possessions. These are worth to man’s keeping but ultimately belong to God. The Shemitah declares that God is first and above all realms of life, and must therefore be put first and above every realm. During the Shemitah Israel was, in effect, compelled to turn away from these earthly or worldly realms and turn to the spiritual.”
― Jonathan Cahn, The Mystery of the Shemitah: The 3,000-Year-Old Mystery That Holds the Secret of America’s Future, the World’s Future, and Your Future!
Now compare that to people. People give their word.
First of all, people say I’m gonna do something and they don’t do it or they say I’ll give you my word.
I remember somebody who, you know, uh it’s not about the person but, but he just, I just couldn’t, his word just didn’t mean anything.
And he said, listen, I’m, I’m giving you my word. Look, I’m shaking on it, shaking and I’m doing it.
I’m saying this means nothing and it meant nothing at all.
Even in the Lord, people say, I’ll do something, I’ll show up, I’ll be here every I, I’ll serve in this ministry and they don’t and you don’t see them.
What is marriage? Marriage is based on what a vow an oath? Why?
Because it’s, it’s a lot more than just saying, hey, I love you. I wanna be with you.
That doesn’t necessarily mean a lot throughout the rest of your life because in life you’re gonna have good times and bad times and hard times, richer, poor sickness, health, all that.
So it’s based on a vow. That’s why it’s called the marriage vow. A vow.
The bride and groom have to take a vow in front of others.
And what kind of culture do we live in? We live in a culture of lack of faithfulness.
A culture of divorce, broken marriages, broken relationships, broken homes, broken lives, a culture based on broken words, broken hopes, broken, broken promises.
Now we’re talking though about God. That’s man.
You got God, you know, as people, as believers, we are to be people of our word.
Don’t give your word loosely. If you give your word, you keep it unless there’s a moral reason, you know, or it’s impossible, you do it.
Your word should be good. You should be speaking in integrity.
But now we’re talking about God swearing amazing enough, but God swearing on God by himself.
Now this is the thing, this is the thing. Now, what is Hebrews talking about Hebrew?
There’s a phenomenon in the Bible.
It’s rare, very rare, but it just manifests in a few places in your Bible where God actually swears by himself.
Just a few times. Two of them are in Jeremiah where God swears by himself saying, listen, listen Israel, this is what’s gonna happen.
You do this, I swear by myself. There’s judgment is coming and it did another one.
Isaiah listen to this one because it’ll be a little bit familiar to you. I mean just part it.
He says in Isaiah 45 turn to me and be saved all the ends of the earth for I am God and there is no other by myself.
I have sworn the word has gone out from my mouth and righteousness and will not turn back that to me, every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess.
And it, but when He God gave that, you read about this at the end of the Bible, every knee shall bow, every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.
But he, but he it starts from here in Isaiah and it’s God saying it’s gonna be to him.
And so Messiah has to be God has to be together. But that’s where he said that.
He said, I swear by myself. This shall happen. Now think so.
What’s the highest, the highest people do? What’s the highest that people can swear to? I swear to God.
You know, people say that sometimes people say that very rapidly. Swear to God.
I swear to God because you’re saying if you don’t mess up, you better not be lying because you’re saying it to God, you know, even the president.
So help me God, I swear to God or, or you know, I and, and yet here is God swearing to God God saying I swear to God.
I swear to me in Hebrew. It is B N by myself. I have sworn.
