“The Things We Need to Know: Trusting in God’s Timing and Wisdom”

As Christians, we often find ourselves seeking guidance and direction from God, especially when we are faced with difficult decisions or challenges in life. We pray for clarity and for a sense of God’s will for our lives, and we often long to know what the future holds.

But as Priscilla Shirer reminds us in her book “The Resolution for Women,” the things that are “freely given to us by God” (1 Corinthians 2:12) are the only things we need to know now. This means that while we may seek guidance and direction from God, we must also trust in His timing and wisdom and be content with the knowledge that He has freely given to us.

One reason we may grow upset and disturbed when we do not hear specifically from God is that we want what is not freely given. When we pray, “Lord, show me Your will,” we may be asking for things that God knows are not relevant for another twenty years. We want God to paint the whole picture right away, but He wisely withholds certain truths and information from us until we need it, when we can actually do something with it besides just mess it up.

This does not mean that we should not seek guidance and direction from God. On the contrary, it is important for us to seek His will for our lives and to be open to His leading. But it does mean that we must trust in His timing and wisdom and be content with the knowledge that He has freely given to us.

So how can we trust in God’s timing and wisdom? One way is to focus on the present and to make the most of the opportunities and challenges that come our way. We can also seek guidance and direction from God through prayer, reading the Bible, and seeking the counsel of trusted Christian mentors and friends.

Another way to trust in God’s timing and wisdom is to remember that God is sovereign and in control. He knows what is best for us, and He has a plan for our lives that is perfect and good. When we trust in His sovereignty and submit to His will, we can find peace and contentment, even in the midst of uncertainty and change.

trusting in God’s timing and wisdom requires a heart of surrender and a willingness to let go of our own agendas and desires. It means putting our faith and trust in God and His perfect plan for our lives. As we do so, we can find peace and contentment, knowing that God is sovereign and in control, and that He has freely given us all we need to know for now.
