Apollos had part of the truth but not all he had a great gift but not all the truth Priscilla and Achila had the more of the truth but they didn’t have the great gift they come together explosion God used all of them to do something [Music] Mighty and there was a certain Jew named Apollos born in Alexandria he was an eloquent man powerful in the scriptures and he came to Ephesus Apollos we don’t know any Jewish name that this guy has but he’s Jewish but his name is not Jewish his Jew his name Apollos comes from a pagan God
Apollos the Sun God speaking of the eclipse the Sun God you know so here’s a man Apollos with a pagan name the New Testament doesn’t hide it it just because it’s not about the person it doesn’t matter what you’re labeled is you know the label I mean listen good you can call yourself what you want but it’s your heart that’s going to determine everything Hallelujah now Apollos probably had a Hebrew name but we don’t know what it was I would say I say more than probably really Jewish
people who lived outside of Israel they lived in the Roman World they lived in the Greek World they lived in Exile they would have Greek names and Roman names but they also not a Hebrew name Paul paulus Roman his real name Sha so in Babylon when I spoke about the three children of M Shadrach mhach and Abednego that’s what they got in Exile but their real name Shadrach was real name was hanani hanania which means the grace of God mesach his real name was mishael which means who is that which God is and Abednego who servant of nego
not real his real name was Azaria which is the Lord is my helper even the Promised Land Of God which has a Hebrew name from God was exiled when the children of Israel went into Exile it was exiled it was cut off and it was renamed with a pagan word Palestine hello its real name was Israel so also there is a application to you because there is the there is you there is the you that grew up most likely outside of God it’s they exiled you that’s the old identity that’s that but that’s not the you and very you know it’s not who you
are when you you know when you know when you read some things in the Bible you say oh that’s not me you beloved pure Royal it’s not me and you feel you a lot of times you feel your identity you kind of feel like the old one is the real one the one who messes up the one who has guilt the one who has all this stuff but that’s not the real you the real you is the new you you know the the the other one that’s the Exile you that’s the old you that’s when you were separated from God but the problem is because that’s
often the first identity you have that’s often what sticks with you you know even when you know better but the key is you know the the new identity is the real you that’s what you were supposed to be from the beginning if it wasn’t for sin that’s all you would know and so that’s the real you and you got to live by that so Apollos is born in Alexandria named after Alexander the grave great City in Egypt many tons of Jewish people there large Jewish population he was eloquent he was educated Alexandria was a center of
culture learning the famous Library of Alexandria in ancient times the septan the first translation of the Bible into another language is the Hebrew scriptures into Greek made by the rinic scholars living abroad they the New Testament uses the tuent it was translated in Alexandria where Apollos came from center of learning there’s a famous Jewish philosopher in the first century called Pho or filo of Alexandria he was there and he wrote he wrote about the Bible and he wrote about the logos he didn’t know the Gospel of John you know the
beginning was the logos the word and he he he wrote about the logos as being in in between God and the world and and and and deity and and also like the firstborn of God amazing it’s like touching on what John was going to what he wrote undoubtedly Apollos was a man of culture trained in the Scriptures it says he knew the scriptures he was strong in that powerful in the Scriptures it says capable the word in Greek next verse this man had been instructed in the way of the Lord being fervent in the spirit he spoke and
diligently taught them the things of the Lord now listen knowing only the baptism of John he just SED that he knew the baptism of John and he had the Old Testament he was he knew that he was instructed in that how did he know that well we don’t always realize it but John the Baptist was very powerful I mean his there was a whole there was a whole stir about him all over before Messiah was it was all over and he was power in fact so powerful that in secular history it speaks of John as a great prophet so apparently there were Disciples of John
who spread all over and they may not have known when the day came when Messiah came and so this must have may have reached him in Alexandria Egypt we don’t know but that’s all he knows he knows John so the guy is passionate he’s strong in the word and remember when they talk about the word they didn’t have the New Testament yet then this is the New Testament it’s talking about the Hebrew scriptures and he’s speaking but he it says he’s he’s passionate but he he does not quite know all that he
should know it said next verse 26 and he began speaking boldly in the synagogues and when Aila and Priscilla remember them when he when they heard him talking they realized wait a minute he doesn’t know this this this this he doesn’t know so they took him to themselves they brought him home most likely and began expounding to him the way of God more accurately he’s speaking in the synagogues what if you wanted to hear the gospel back then the place to go was the synagogues you know they didn’t have
church buildings you know they didn’t have church building until the 3D and fourth Century so where were they all they were in the synagogue they were in homes and their in their apartments and they were wherever they could go they take him aside and they explain the gospel the Messiah that John was was heralding Messiah death and resurrection of Messiah and Apollo is open verse 27 he received when he when he was going to go into AA the Brethren there wrote to exhort the disciples to receive him who had when he had come greatly helped
those who had believed through the grace through Grace for he had powerfully convinced the Jews publicly showing through the scriptures that Yeshua Jesus was Messiah now convin it can mean convinced them or proved to them now he comes up later we don’t know a lot about Apollos but to see to see how major he was in First Corinthians Paul writes when he returns to Ephesus he said he said in Corinth 1 Corinthians he said you’re saying there some are saying I am of Apollos I am of sephus Peter Kaa The Rock I am of Paul and so so Paul is
saying Hey guys you’re not of each of it’s only God there’s no division but do you see how you see how big this guy must have been in the Lord because there’s three people Peter Paul and Apollos and we know Peter and Paul real well we don’t know a lot about Apollos but he was very major and he’s mentioned he’s mentioned there first and so Paul corrects it he says I planted Apollo watered but God gives the growth and he’s saying listen it’s not me who plant it’s not Apollo who Waters that means
anything it’s God but Paul he’s the one who planted he spread the gospel Apollos watered it he discipled them he taught them he helped them now there’s virtually no more mention of Apollos there’s there’s one exception all but some believe that he was the author of Hebrews um and and some people think Paul but really it doesn’t go with that but the one who writes Hebrews has a real knowledge of the Hebrew scriptures real deep and he was very eloquent and he he was very we he was very strong in
the word we don’t know though but Apollos is kind of disappears except for one more mention it comes at the very end of Paul’s life maybe around 66 ad he reappears in Titus Paul writes send zenos the lawyer I guess he needed a lawyer and Apollos on their Journey quickly so they can lack nothing apparently Zenus and Apollos were delivering a letter of Paul to Titus so they’re still serving at the very end Apollos is serving and serving Paul what do we learn from the man of Alexandria well number one nobody has it
all down nobody has everything down no one has all the truth no one has everything right at every second Apollos had part of the truth but not all he had a great gift but not all the truth prilla and Achila had the more of the truth but they didn’t have the great gift they come together explosion God used all of them to do something Mighty amen no one has it all so we have to be humble we need each other amen we have to be slow to judge each other they could have you know they could have just judged him like some Christians they
just look he’s he’s off he’s her heretical he doesn’t know this he’s not preaching the gospel but they didn’t they brought him and they told him and there’s something else about Apollos that teaches us something very important he did not wait until he was perfect to serve God yes you know before I came to the Lord I was kind of like Lord I I’m not ready yet I want to have right motives I don’t want to you know I want to be right well you know if you you don’t get right to go to God to be to
make you right you know you know it was like I saying growing up we had a we had a cleaning woman who came once a mon once a week and and she and my mother always the day before she would come would always say you got to clean up you got to clean up you don’t want her to see it like that she’s coming the cleaning say ma that’s what she’s for you know but that’s how I was like coming to the Lord you know want to get right to come to the Lord and finally realized the whole point is if I could get right
to come to the Lord I wouldn’t need to come to the Lord to get right and right now the same way though I mean if you have a if you are in a blatant sin that is in those that category of you’re not in God’s will at all well then deal with that you deal with that you got to get that right you know you’re living together you’re doing this whatever that thing is but if you wait on the other hand if you wait until you’re worthy to serve him you will never serve him if you wait until you’re
all together you will never do it you cannot do it you know you know Apollos didn’t have it all down he was not at all perfect in in that sense but he stepped out he wanted to serve God he wanted to please God he wanted to bless God with what he knew and God honored it if you wait until you have no more sin to serve God you will serve God when you’re dead something else about a you got something else about Apollos that goes with us now and it’s going to bring where I going to bring this this this
final Point home I once had to do a funeral early in the the ministry and it was a funeral of a Jewish believer and this Jewish believer had the funeral in a traditional Jewish funeral home and they did not know about Messianic believing Jewish people believing in Jesus and I went there and the guy who’s in charge of calls calls it says Rabbi come I’m thinking okay he he says he says Rabbi we have to do we have to get the family together we have to do the ribbon cutting ceremony he calls in the family
they have a I’m thinking what on Earth is that he calls them all around says okay Rabbi here they they all have ribbons they these black ribbons see and they they were to cut it you see what it was is in the old days they would tear their clothes but now they don’t want to ruin the good pair of clothes so so they have a ribbon you know and they cut it and there’s a blessing and so he says Rabbi say the blessing over the ribbon think what blessing over what ribbon I don’t know what he’s talking about and
they’re all gathered the family’s all gathered around waiting for the blessing I’m thinking okay think okay let’s just have a moment of meditation right now let’s pray Lord what do I do I Haven the slightest idea what this thing is and they’re they’re they’re just waiting and so I don’t know what to do and and it’s it’s a long this is like an eternity goes and they’re looking at me I don’t know what to hold up the ribbon everybody hold the ribbon and do do that
you can do this I don’t know do the then I said the first thing that comes to my mind I said see see the thing is here thing see see if you don’t know to do you act like you know the way rabbis say blessing it’s like I’ve said it 100 times I don’t care which was the most inappropriate prayer I could have ever said because here I am at a funeral there in morning and the prayer was thank you God for bringing us to this day and I realized when I said I said well if they know what I said and there’s silence
and the one who’s running a silent then then he turns to he says thank you Rabbi let’s go on they had no idea what I said they had no idea now now he said oh you did a great job yeah of course oh yeah of course I knew what I was doing that’s the key to Apollos Apollos didn’t know what he was doing but he was doing it for the Lord amen I didn’t know what I was doing I was trying to do it for the Lord then it hit me I you know most of ministry I don’t know what I’m doing especially
when I step out in the Lord in Ministry something new go to another country or a new a new a new ministry Apollos was preaching but he really didn’t know when he came he didn’t know but he did it because he he he knew he was to serve God and the history of the faith is filled with people who really didn’t know what they were doing and when you look at most new ministry most Ministries that started up they didn’t really know how to do it and then look at the Bible did Abraham know what he was doing he just TR God said get out of
you know come and he walked out did Moses know what he was doing when he led the people to the Red Sea and he didn’t know God said okay now this is what I’m going to do did David know I mean he was he was excited but he never knew how to have battle a giant it was God’s grace on him did Peter know what he was doing when he was walking on water he never did it before he could have known but God honors people who step out God honors you when you step out when you step out on God’s will or God’s God’s word you may not know all
that but you step out God will honor it it says in the spirit it says we are to walk in the newness of life you in order to walk in the newness it has to be something that you don’t know cuz it’s something new if you only walk in what you know it’ll get old and you won’t grow grow so in that sense you can’t know what you’re doing when you’re walking into something that you don’t know the greatest walks the secret is they didn’t know Hebrews crossing the Red Sea did they know what they were
doing of course not how could they they didn’t do it before when they crossed the Jordan did they know what they were doing of course not they just said okay we’re stepping out the greatest things we can do start when you don’t know what you’re doing when I was asked to go into Ministry I didn’t know what I was doing I had no experience on that I mean I was ministering as God was leading me I was doing a Bible study was doing a uh Ministry to the homeless and you know all I was helping out in the
congregation but I didn’t know but I learned I didn’t have to every major move radio inter International this building so much we didn’t know we didn’t know and and but now all these years later you start learning and you learn your ways and you’re doing it and and after all these years I can confidently say now I still don’t know what I’m doing H but I know him I know him you know back then see then you know back then you might think you know what you’re doing but you don’t know that you
didn’t know what you were doing now I really know that I don’t know what I’m doing back then I didn’t really know that I didn’t know what I was doing but now I know how much I don’t know what I’m doing when we planned the return you know it was planned for September 26 2020 I didn’t plan it that date but I was led before that that it was to be called the return it turned out the day that it was planned for to do the day of the return was a sacred day on the Hebrew calendar that is called basically
the day of the return so we planned the day of the return on the day of the return but had no idea what we were doing I had no idea how to write a book I don’t know how to write a book I just wrote it that’s all cuz I didn’t know God you don’t have to God says do it just do it just walk just do it I um I mean today we have um and I didn’t you know Steve we’re honored always when when uh this great man of God comes up Steve Strang of Charisma is here you know um and I’m sure when he started
Charisma I haven’t asked him but that he didn’t know what he was doing that he just stepped out I mean pretty much and God did all these things God says do it do it God’s word says do it just do it God says walk walks says spread the word I can’t spread the word I’m not an evangelist I don’t know how you don’t know how you don’t have to know you don’t have to be a quote evangelist you just share what you know all you have to share is hey what he did for you got to know what he did
for you just share what he did for you you know you know someone who’s a witness you bear witness you witness you testify at a court you don’t have to know anything you don’t have to be an expert you just have to tell what you know so if you’re going to witness for God you tell what you know know apollis didn’t know it was above him and yet see the thing is your calling is like that it’s got to be above you or you don’t go up you don’t grow to it it’s got to be bigger than
you or you don’t grow big you don’t grow in it if you’re only living in things that fit you perfectly right in your life right now you’re never going to grow it’s got to be something bigger Moses told God I can’t do it it’s too much I can’t talk I’m a man I’m slow of speech what an excuse that was slow of speech look at all that he said after that Jeremiah said the same thing basically he said I’m too young I can’t do it Isaiah said I am too Unholy I am sinful it’s always above you that’s why
you’ll grow into it but you’ll never know it if you don’t start and step out when you don’t know it get out start moving into new things that God said do God’s will take that step of Faith step out walk forward in what God Said believe even if it’s different from your old self what you’re used to from the routine your root step out you want to grow grow higher the Lord will guide you the Lord will mold you he will guide your steps he will refine you he’ll stretch you he’ll anoint you he’ll
