Looking For Your Purpose? | Steven Furtick
Trusting God in Difficult Seasons
I’ve been asking God why He placed me here. I’ve been seeking His guidance to use me in this season of my life. I’ve been praying for purpose, for transformation, and for clarity amid the struggles. Sometimes, we don’t recognize God’s blessings because they arrive in unexpected ways.
Consider the story of Paul. He stood by the fire for warmth, but the same fire that comforted him also caused him pain. Have you ever found warmth in something, only to be wounded by it later? The closer we are to something, the deeper its impact—whether in relationships, passions, or creative pursuits. The greater the fire, the greater the test.
Paul, not native to the island, helped build the fire. But as he stepped beyond his comfort zone, a snake emerged from the heat and bit his hand. The islanders immediately judged him: “This man must be a murderer.” But what they didn’t realize was that the very person they condemned was carrying the healing they needed.
Sometimes, life’s trials lead others to misjudge us. But remember this: The one who faces hardship may also be the one God is preparing to bring healing. Paul’s experience teaches us a powerful lesson—whenever you build something for God, expect challenges. Whether you’re building a ministry, a business, or a family, you will face trials. The question is, will you let the bite define you, or will you shake it off and keep going?
Paul didn’t argue or defend himself. Instead, in one of the most powerful moments of his life, he simply shook the snake into the fire. His actions spoke louder than words.
When trials come, don’t let them define your identity. A bad situation does not mean you’re a bad person. Instead, take what you’ve learned, press forward, and trust that God is using your story for something greater.
