Discovery in the Sinai: The First Inscription of Moses?
Moses—Moshe—the deliverer of Israel, the lawgiver, and the one who began writing the Word of God. For generations, critics claimed Moses was only a legend. They argued his name did not exist in Egyptian records, and that no archaeological evidence connected him to Sinai, where the Bible says he led Israel.
But now, something stunning has been found.
In the Sinai Peninsula, the very place Moses spent much of his life, archaeologists discovered an ancient inscription etched on the wall of an Egyptian mine. The writer has been identified as Semitic—connected to the Israelites—and the words were written in an early Semitic script closely related to biblical Hebrew.
Using high-resolution scans, researchers uncovered something remarkable. Near the inscription appears the Hebrew word “El”—the name of the God of Israel. Alongside it, the name of the Egyptian goddess Hathor was discovered—but it was deliberately scratched out, while the name of Israel’s God remained untouched.
Nearby, carvings also referenced slavery and slave masters—powerful confirmation of the Exodus story, where Hebrews were enslaved under Egyptian rule.
