Haggai’s Prophecy & The Glory of Your Latter House | Jonathan Cahn Sermon
Haggai’s Prophecy & The Glory of Your Latter House
The prophet Haggai, the calling of God, the setbacks and opposition to God’s purposes, the vision of the Latter House – The amazing manifestation of that prophecy in modern days, the amazing way God weaves our lives together, the promise, the purpose, and the calling God’s given each of us, the obstacles and set-backs to that calling, and how to rise up now and finally fulfill it. A special prophetic message Jonathan Cahn was led to give.
Last night in prayer, I asked the Lord for a word to share with you—and He brought me to the message He gave through the prophet Haggai. God is calling His people to remember the purpose He gave them, the promise He made, and His unchanging faithfulness. He is saying: Get back to the work I’ve called you to. Move forward.
In Haggai 2:4–5, the Lord declares:
“But now take courage, Zerubbabel,” declares the Lord,
“Take courage also, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest,
And all you people of the land take courage,” declares the Lord,
“And work, for I am with you,” says the Lord of Hosts.
“This is the promise I made to you when you came out of Egypt.
My Spirit remains among you—do not be afraid.”
God continues in Haggai 2:6–9:
“In a little while, I will shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land.
I will shake all the nations, and the wealth of the nations shall come in.
I will fill this house with glory,” says the Lord of Hosts.
“The silver is Mine, the gold is Mine,” says the Lord.
“The glory of this latter house will be greater than the glory of the former,” says the Lord of Hosts.
“And in this place I will give peace.” Amen.
That’s the key: The glory of the latter house will be greater than the former.
What was the former house? It was Solomon’s Temple—glorious, magnificent, but it was destroyed in 586 BC when the people of Israel were exiled to Babylon. When they returned, God told them: Now build the temple again. Just like when Israel first entered the land from Egypt, they were called to build God’s house. And now, in our generation, Israel has returned to the land a third time—and prophetically, the Third Temple must be built.
Haggai told Zerubbabel to finish the work because God was about to do something greater. The people had started rebuilding, but opposition came. Enemies threatened them. They became discouraged, and the work stopped for 15 years. In that time, the people lost their vision. They turned their attention to their own homes, businesses, and personal affairs, while the house of the Lord remained abandoned.
Haggai’s message was clear:
“As long as you put your business first, you will not be blessed.
Put God’s house first—and He will bless your house.”
That message is still for us today.
God says the glory of the latter house—the Second Temple—will be greater than that of Solomon’s Temple. How could this be?
