Discover a New Christmas Scripture You’ve Never Heard Before
This Christmas, let’s explore a scripture you might not have encountered. It’s not about the baby Jesus, but about the breakthrough Jesus. In Luke 5, the Bible shares that Jesus came to Capernaum. While baby Jesus was born in Bethlehem, breakthrough Jesus can be found in Capernaum. This is where he began performing miracles.
In Luke 5:17, the Bible tells us that when Jesus arrived in Capernaum, he was teaching and preaching. Why? Because Jesus is the Word. Imagine hearing the Word preach the Word—it would be incredible! The crowds were so drawn to him that no one could even get in the door.
Luke 5:17-18 describes how Pharisees and teachers from Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem gathered around Jesus. The power of the Lord was with Jesus, and naturally, his presence attracted power. Since Jesus is God in human form, it makes sense that where Jesus is, power flows, making anything possible. God’s presence brings healing, joy, and breakthroughs.
When some men brought a paralyzed friend to see Jesus, they couldn’t get through because of the crowd. They didn’t give up. Instead, they climbed on the roof and lowered their friend in front of Jesus. Their faith sparked a creative solution. They didn’t quit just because it seemed impossible—they found a way.
In contrast, many others turned away because they didn’t commit to finding a way. They gave up too soon. But these men were determined. They said, “If we can’t go through, we’ll go over. Our friend needs Jesus.”
When they lowered their friend in front of Jesus, the miracle happened. Jesus looked at them and, seeing their faith, declared, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”
While some Pharisees questioned Jesus, thinking he blasphemed by claiming to forgive sins, they didn’t understand who they were dealing with.
