thank you for joining me today.
And, um, I wanna talk to you about something that if you don’t get it, You’re never gonna walk in victory.
You’re never gonna walk in peace.
And if you do get a hold of this principle, it’ll literally change your life and help you walk in the fullness of what God has called you to do.
And so Uh, I wanna talk to you about learning how to walk and rest, how to live in the rest of god.
And I was thinking of a verse that we could read it today as we start off.
This is Adam, the book of Mark, chapter 6 and verse, uh, 31.
for me, I’d, I’d, boy, I just feel an overwhelming love of the lord for you.
Um, y’all are so important to the lord.
And, uh, you will never know how much our father loves us.
So I want you to be encouraged. Disverse Mark chapter 6 and verse start with verse 30.
And the apostles gathered themselves together with Jesus.
And they told him all things, both what they had done and what they had taught.
you know, it must have been an amazing thing for them to come back from their ministries and everything.
And and to be able to sit down with the son of god, Jesus.
And, you know, I I think he would be so excited when he would watch them as they came in and they were talking about what they’ve seen and the miracles that have happened.
He’s just watching them, and I’m sure he’s so proud of them.
And so they sit down and and they they start telling him things, you know, everything they’ve done.
Verse 31, he and he said into them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place and rest a while.
for there were many coming and going, and they had not so much leisure as even they had time to eat.
And, they had they had done so much that and they were so busy that they really the bosses, they hadn’t even taken time to eat.
And as they’re sitting there, Jesus recognized that.
And he said, I need you to come away for a little while.
And I just need you to rest.
You cannot serve god long term and have victory in your life.
unless you learn how to rest in the lord.
And so I just wanna talk to you about some thoughts that that have been in my spirit.
And, um, most of this has just kinda come out of my prayer time.
But, uh, Isaiah 4031 says this.
It says they that wait upon the lord shall renew their strength.
There are seasons, when you walk with god and and you have a call of god in your life, that what god wants you to do is just wait um, busyness is not necessarily doing the will of god.
Sometimes learning to wait James 14 says, let patients have her finished or complete work that you will be mature and complete wanting nothing And, um, you don’t realize it, but learning to wait on god.
if, you know, not necessarily always being busy, but learning just to get in that place to where you’re waiting on the lord uh, he said, in that time, there’s still a work being accomplished that when when you have the patience, you know, I heard somebody say, lord, give me patience and hurry up.
Um, there there are seasons that god uh, wants to give us that ability.
It takes patience to fulfill the will of God.
Uh, you know, I look back over our church in, um, this particular church regeneration, Nashville, that we started.
I guess it’s been 17, 18 years ago.
I wanted to see the success that we’re in now.
But I, uh, year after year after year after year, we never saw the breakthrough And and what happened, how did I sustain that?
I reached a place to where I told the lord I know that when you’re ready, you’ll do it.
So I’m gonna learn to wait upon you.
And, uh, it doesn’t mean that that we’re uninvolved, but it means resting in the pace that god has revelations 1412 says that the patience of the saints is keeping the faith of god.
There are some things that they they’re spiritual, but there are some things that you can do by yourself.
And then there are some things that can only be accomplished by you and god working together.
And then there are some things that only god can do.
I think this is where so many people get worn out is they’re trying to do something that only god can do.
And god says, my ways are not your ways.
when you go back and you read the scripture, uh, it’s in this story is in Mark chapter 4 in verse 38.
uh, Jesus is in the boat with his disciples, and this unusual storm comes.
And it’s it’s not the waves at the problem. It is the wind.
It is the wind that’s creating the waves. learn to recognize what’s creating the adversity in your life.
Don’t just deal with the symptoms. Go with what’s creating it.
And uh, waves the waters coming in the boat, seasoned fishermen that have been on this the braised on this lake.
they are being pushed out of their ability and fear gets ahold of them.
And they begin to think they’re gonna die And yet in the midst of it, the Bible says that Jesus was in the same storm in the same boat, And the Bible says, he’s asleep.
How could he do that?
How could Jesus rest in a storm that looked like was gonna drowned everyone.
Because before he ever went to sleep, He already knew I have authority over this lake.
You will never rule over a storm in your life that you don’t have authority over.
And Jesus, you know, they awoke him, and and he just stood up and said peace be still, and immediately everything calmed down.
Learning to to rest in god means that that you get on god’s timetable.
Uh, I’ve seen so many people over the years sabotage their or their life because they couldn’t wait on the lord, even to the point where they married the wrong person, or they took the wrong job, or they bought the wrong house, because they wanted something so desperately they could not wait, uh, on the lord to do it, I think it’s in Hebrews chapter, yeah, chapter 12 and verse 1 that says this that we’re in a race.
But this is not, uh, uh, this is not a sprint.
This is a long distance race.
And when the rider in Hebrews addresses us, he said, the only way that you’re gonna win this race You’re gonna have to learn to run it with patients.
And, uh, patience is a very difficult thing to master.
because it means that when you’re surrounded by things that that you feel pressing in on you that need to be dealt with, that you don’t necessarily put your hand on them because you’re learning to rest in God.
REST will keep you from unbelief.
I remember years ago here in David Walkerson say I only got to be in 2 of his meetings.
1 when I was 12 at the beginning of his own ministry and 1, uh, just a few years before he died.
And he made this statement. He said, rest is the outward sign of faith.
Faith requires you and I to be able to rest.
And, um, and I looked this up before I did put this together.
This is in, um, Philippines 46, and Paul writes as he said, be anxious for nothing.
People that are anxious are not at rest.
And, uh, in Proverbs chapter 12 in verse 25, it deals with this also.
He said anxiety in the heart of a man.
And, boy, this is just so addresses our day.
Said anxiety when it gets in the heart of a man, causes depression.
Uh, I I’m not sure I’ve seen a time in which there are so many believers that are discouraged.
And, uh, unfortunately, it’s amazing how many believers are on antidepressants to manage life because they’ve not learned to rest in god.
Rest means that doesn’t matter how impossible it looks.
that you know deep down in your heart that god’s got this.
He’s gonna take care of this.
you know, when we when we stepped out by faith to to build this new church building that we’re building, um, I guess And it’s just mind boggling to me thinking where we’ve came from.
It’s so, uh, a short time.
We’re probably spending $14,000,000, something like that, um, when we get done with this building.
And, you know, we’re doing it by faith.
And, you know, the my CPL come and say, we gotta write a check for half a $1,000,000 or you know, our HVAC systems are gonna come in.
We need close to a $1,000,000. And you know what I do?
I just tell lord, This is so far out of my reach, and I didn’t come up with this concept you did at your house.
And so, lord, I’m not gonna lay in bed at night and go into depression because I’m sick over how are we gonna do this?
No. No problem. God’s got this.
And you will see the day when I will tell you in podcast and we’re in that new building that got paid for it.
Why? Because I’ve learned how to rest in the lord.
You cannot allow temporary uh pebbles to move you from your position in God.
You you just have to learn how to rest in the lord.
And, um, Isaiah 2812 I came across this in my daily Bible ring a couple days ago, but he said, this is the rest.
wherein the weary shall rest.
Uh, you know, if you if if you’re busy about the kingdom of the lord, you’re busy being a believer, is inevitable that the virtue in you is gonna be depleted.
So it’s it’s not wrong to get weary.
But when you reach that point, weariness is not, unbelief.
Wearing weariness means that you’re working for god.
But he said, when you reach a point that you’ve expended your virtue, He said, there is a rest in God.
And sometimes god will slow you down just so he can replenish you, fill you back up, pour the virtue of god in you.
over the years, and it’s been difficult.
But, uh, I think I can finally say I’ve reached a place to where I’ve learned had a rest in the lord.
Uh, they’re they’re, uh, doing these podcasts are very, very important to me.
so many of you write me.
And if I get to meet you, I say, Brett Kent, I enjoy the podcast as much as I do the sermons on Sunday or they’ve really helped me through difficult times or through the COVID season, whatever.
And, uh, I do this every week besides preaching on Sundays.
and everything that I do, uh, I get from the lord.
It’s not, I’m not going through old notes or anything like that.
And When I first started doing this, uh, I thought, man, I’ve gotta come up with something brand new every week.
And for some reason, god, uh, many, many times, will wait till the last moment, uh, before he will give me uh, that unction or that direction for the podcast or for the message.
But I’ve learned now to resting God’s timing There have been times over the years when I’ve come to a podcast.
I had nothing when I got him a truck to come to the office and all of a sudden on the way, because I learned to rest in God.
God would drop it in my spirit because it has to be fresh bread.
has to be something that’s raiment to you and many that are hearing me right now.
Uh, can I tell you that I boy, I feel this in the spirit of the lord that as I’m releasing this word, that there’s a spirit of rest that’s coming upon you.
And god’s got this. At the end of the day, we’re just responsible for being obedient to the lord.
We’re not responsible for making it happen.
man can plant a man can water, but only god can give the increase.
So learning to it takes patience to learn to rest in God because, you know, we want everything to happen right then know, and we go to prayer, and we think, god, by the end of the day, it’s gonna happen, and then it doesn’t happen.
And god’s saying, I I’m testing you.
you know, the Bible talks about the trial of our faith that god will test us.
They’ll see it can you rest in me? Can you rest in me?
The lord wants to know when you’re in the middle of the storm.
As I end this today, I want you to know this.
This is why the lord said when you get the holy ghost. you’ll be in due with power.
This is why in Isaiah, at least in the King James, he says, this is the rest when the weary should rest.
How for with stammering lips and another tongues, sayeth god will I speak to my people?
It’s praying in the holy ghost.
Jude said, learning to build yourself up on your most holy faith, praying in the holy ghost.
So I wanna encourage you. This is why Jesus told his disciples. He recognized. They’re depleted.
They don’t know it. He said, guys, I need you to get away for a little while.
Even the lord recognized that. So there’s nothing wrong with taking a vacation.
There’s nothing wrong with taking some time off to have some leisure time.
Um, sometimes you just gotta disconnect and just rest in the lord.
The lord loves you very much.
And he’s not willing that you fall or the enemy triump over you. So I wanna encourage you.
You hold your ground. Take deep breath.
Whatever storm you’re in, I tell god, I know you got this, and you will bring me through.
