Choosing Hope in the Middle of the Battle – Pastor Rick Warren Daily Devotional for October 18, 2026
If your heart feels a little tired today, you are not alone. Many believers across America are waking up with questions, quiet fears, and unspoken burdens. Yet right now, in this very moment, God leans toward you with compassion and strength. He is not disappointed in your weakness; He is ready to meet you there. As you pause with this devotional, imagine setting your worries into the hands of a Father who never lets go. Today, Pastor Rick Warren’s familiar theme of purpose and hope echoes over your life: you are not an accident, your story is not over, and your God is still writing good things into your future.
Anchored by a Promise
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV)
These words were first given to God’s people in a season of disappointment and exile. They felt forgotten, dislocated, and far from what they expected life to be. Maybe you feel that way too—off course, behind schedule, or stuck in a place you never asked for. Yet God speaks right into those places with a steady promise: “I know the plans I have for you.” Not random events. Not meaningless pain. Plans. Purpose. A future saturated with His presence. This verse doesn’t deny hardship; it declares that hardship will not have the final word over your life.
Walking by Faith in Ordinary Moments
Real faith is not just for church services and dramatic testimonies; it’s for commutes, kitchen tables, work emails, and late-night worries. Following Jesus in daily life means inviting Him into the ordinary. When you’re discouraged, whisper, “Lord, I trust Your plan even when I don’t see it.” When anxiety rises, breathe in and imagine exhaling your fear into God’s capable hands. When making decisions, pause and ask, “Holy Spirit, guide my steps today.” Over time, these small habits quietly reshape your heart. You begin to live less reactively and more intentionally, grounded in the truth that God is present in every detail. Spiritual growth often looks like one surrendered moment at a time.
Growing Deeper Roots of Faith
Heavenly Father, strengthen my faith today. Where I doubt, speak truth. Where I fear, pour in courage. Teach me to trust You not just with my eternity but with my schedule, my choices, and my emotions. Pull my roots deep into Christ so I am not tossed around by circumstances. Help me to believe that Your Word is more reliable than my feelings and that Your character is more stable than my changing situation. Let my faith be alive and active, drawing me to prayer, to Scripture, and to obedience. Remind me that even mustard-seed faith is enough when it is placed in a mighty God.
Grace Over My Home and Relationships
Lord, I lift my family and loved ones to You. You know every story, every wound, every need. Cover our home with Your peace. Heal misunderstandings, soften hardened hearts, and restore communication where there is distance or tension. Protect marriages, strengthen parents, and comfort those who feel alone. Surround my children, grandchildren, and relatives with godly influences and wise friends. Let forgiveness flow more freely than anger. May our home be a place where Your presence is welcomed, where Your name is honored, and where love is stronger than any conflict. Place a hedge of protection around those I love, near and far.
Health, Healing, and Inner Renewal
Compassionate Lord, You see every ache in our bodies and every silent tear we shed in private. I ask for Your healing touch over my health today. Bring strength where there is weakness, relief where there is pain, and answers where there is confusion. Guard my heart and mind from anxiety, depression, and fear. Teach me to care well for the body You have given me—with rest, wise choices, and gratitude. For those I love who are sick, I ask for mercy, skilled doctors, and timely breakthroughs. Even as I wait for full healing, renew my inner person day by day, filling me with hope that does not disappoint.
