In today’s world, so much seems upside down. Truths once taken for granted are now debated, sometimes fiercely. Whether we’re talking about gender, the value of life, or even basic biology and morality, our culture faces what can only be called a war on reality itself. As Christians, how do we stand firm and respond with love and conviction when the lines between right and wrong, truth and lies, have become so blurred?
The Modern Battle: When Reality Is Twisted
The headlines tell the story: confusion reigns over gender and identity, traditional family values are challenged, and the foundational truths of our faith are called into question even mocked. Recently, organizations like the WNBA have become mired in controversy over definitions as basic as “what is a woman?” The reason for the unrest is simple, yet sobering: we are witnessing an all-out assault against reality, rooted in God’s order and design.
Instead of honoring biblical and biological truths, society increasingly embraces a worldview where identity is fluid and self-asserted. Some would even say that anyone who disagrees is hateful, backward, or part of the “problem.” But, as Christians, we cannot and must not redefine reality to fit the culture’s latest vision; we are called to stand on the truth truth that sets us free.
The Attack on Women’s Sports: A Symptom of a Larger Crisis
Take, for example, the ongoing debates in women’s sports. The WNBA and other leagues now face questions about whether biological men who identify as women should compete in female competitions. This not only undermines fairness for women but also exposes them to potential harm and loss of opportunity athletically and even personally. If we cannot define “woman,” we lose our ability to protect spaces meant to honor and encourage young women and girls.
But this issue doesn’t stand alone. It’s part of a larger trend, a deliberate move to sever society’s moorings from objective truth. For decades, movements have worked to blur gender distinctions and deny moral absolutes. Ironically, what began as a push for equality has turned into confusion, loss, and even the erasure of the very categories these movements set out to defend.
The Deeper Spiritual Battle: A War on Truth Itself
But what’s really at stake isn’t just sports or policies it’s the nature of truth itself. When society tries to shape reality according to feelings, self-will, or loudest voices, it sets itself against the Author of all reality: God. As the Apostle Paul warned in Romans 1, when people reject God, they become “futile in their thinking” and are given over to a depraved mind a mind untethered from truth.
This confusion over moral and natural law has devastating consequences. It leads not only to cultural chaos but to personal pain and brokenness. The growing hostility to biblical truth, whether on college campuses or in public discourse, makes it clearer than ever: there is still such a thing as evil, and it shows itself, tragically, in violence against those who dare to speak truth.
Martyrdom, Persecution, and the Cost of Telling the Truth
Modern Christians may be sheltered compared to our brothers and sisters around the globe, but persecution is on the rise. In America, we mourn high-profile acts of violence like the murder of Christian leaders targeted for their message of biblical truth. Around the world, tragedies like these occur daily, though they rarely make the news.
If there is no God and no eternity, then nothing really matters not goodness, not self-sacrifice, not mission. But because Jesus was raised and because God’s justice is real, how we live and what we believe matters infinitely. We are not without hope. In Christ, life is given meaning, and even suffering, when endured for His sake, becomes a badge of honor and an offering of love.
Why the Truth Attracts Opposition
When someone stands boldly for God’s truth, their life often takes on a new vibrancy. Take the story of a Christian leader who grew more outspoken about faith and biblical convictions, only to face increasing hostility from those who rejected his message. The more he embodied Christ, the more beautiful his witness but also the more hated by those who loved the darkness.
This has always been the cost of bearing witness in a broken world: Truth attracts opposition. As Jesus Himself declared, “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 5:10)
Suppressing the Truth: Why Emotion Replaces Reason
Many today attempt to deny or suppress God’s truth, only to become bitter, angry, even violent. The Bible is clear: suppressing the truth doesn’t make it go away; it only hardens the heart and clouds the mind. Whether it’s in debates over gender, life, or morality, those most desperate for affirmation often lash out at Christians who lovingly speak truth because their own consciences are uneasy. They seek societal approval to drown out the inner voice telling them something’s wrong.
The Bible, Science, and Unchanging Standards
One of the wonders of the Christian worldview is how it aligns with reality. God’s Word, written millennia ago, continues to be confirmed by science and practical experience. For example, Scripture warns about the consequences of sexual immorality not just spiritually, but physically. Modern science now recognizes some of these destructive outcomes, validating timeless biblical wisdom. Whether it’s the social cost of fatherlessness, the danger of addiction, or the very real risks tied to immoral behaviors, the truth of God’s design always comes out in the end.
A World in Search of Affirmation
