Lysa TerKeurst – Daily Devotional October 13, 2026!
When God Holds What You Can’t Carry
If you’re reading this today feeling a little worn, a little stretched thin, you’re not alone. Some days the weight of decisions, disappointments, and delays feels like too much to keep quietly tucked inside a brave smile. This devotional, inspired by the heart of Lysa TerKeurst’s honest, hope-filled writing, is for the part of you that is still showing up, even while you wonder how much longer you can hold everything together. Today, October 13, 2026, God is inviting you to loosen your tight grip and let Him carry what you were never meant to shoulder alone. He sees the bills on your counter, the diagnosis you’re waiting on, the marriage you’re fighting for, and the prayers you whisper when the house finally gets quiet. And right here, in the middle of real life in the United States—soccer practice, deadlines, traffic, and tired hearts—He offers you something steady: His presence, His peace, and His promises that do not break.
His Steadfast Word in a Shifting Day
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7, NIV) This verse is not a suggestion to “be less anxious” or to “get over it.” It’s an invitation: bring every swirling fear, every hidden worry, and lay it on the shoulders of a God who deeply cares for you. The word “cast” paints a picture of throwing something heavy onto someone stronger. You are not weak for feeling anxious; you are wise when you bring that anxiety to Jesus. Today, this verse can become your breath prayer: “Lord, I cast this on You because You care for me.” Every time worry rises, you can respond with this promise, instead of your panic.
Learning to Trust God in the Middle, Not Just the Ending
We love the stories that wrap up neatly—the healing, the restoration, the breakthrough. But most of life is lived in the messy middle, where the outcome isn’t clear yet. Maybe you’re there right now. The diagnosis hasn’t come, the job hasn’t opened up, the relationship isn’t healed. You might feel like you’re stuck in an unfinished chapter. Yet God does some of His deepest work in these in-between places. Today, choose one area where you feel especially uncertain. Name it before God. Then ask, “Lord, what does faithfulness look like in this exact step—not ten steps from now?” Maybe it looks like making one phone call, sending one apology text, updating your résumé, or simply resting instead of numbing out. Trust grows when we obey in small, quiet ways, not just in dramatic leaps. As you move through your day—while driving, washing dishes, or sitting at your desk—invite God into your thoughts. Whisper, “Jesus, I trust You with this moment,” and let that simple act become the anchor that holds you when emotions shift.
Drawing Near in Faith and Quiet Surrender
Father, in the name of Jesus, I bring my faith, however small it feels today, and place it in Your hands. Grow in me a deep, steady trust that is not tossed around by what I see or feel. Where I’ve allowed fear to speak louder than Your promises, forgive me and realign my heart. Teach me to love Your Word again, to open it not as a religious duty but as a lifeline of truth. Help me choose time with You over the endless scroll, and listening to Your Spirit over trying to control outcomes. Guard my thoughts from spirals of anxiety, and train my mind to remember who You are: faithful, kind, powerful, and near. I surrender my timelines, my expectations, and my need to understand everything. Instead, I cling to Your character. Lord, help me walk in step with You today—in faith, not fear; in trust, not panic; in worship, not worry. Amen.
Covering the Hearts and Homes We Love
Lord, I lift my family and loved ones to You. You see our secret tensions, our unspoken hurts, the distance we sometimes feel under the same roof. Heal what is broken and soften what has grown hard. Protect our home from division, bitterness, and harsh words. Let forgiveness become our language and grace our default. Strengthen marriages; surround single parents with support and encouragement. Help us to listen well, to speak gently, and to slow down enough to really see one another. For prodigal sons and daughters, I ask for a holy restlessness that leads them back to You. Wrap our family in Your peace
