We’re Leaving Now – Part 4 (Hebrews 12:1-3)

How Can We Pray For You? Have you signed up yet?

In our Scripture reading, we continue reflecting on Hebrews 12:1–3. This passage holds a wealth of spiritual wisdom, urging us to live with faith and perseverance. As we revisit these verses, let’s focus on their profound call to action:

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him, he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

These verses remind us that, as believers, we are never alone. Whether the “cloud of witnesses” refers to the heroes of faith from Scripture, those who have gone before us, or even fellow believers today, we are surrounded by encouragement. This heavenly perspective fuels our endurance as we strive to live a life of faith.

Refueling for the Journey

Life often feels like a race, and just as a fighter jet depends on a refueling station mid-flight, we too must pause to reconnect with God. Midweek moments like this are essential for spiritual renewal. When we come to God, He fills us with strength, guidance, and the courage to face life’s challenges.

Our prayer should be one of surrender:
“Lord, help us to let go of control and trust in Your perfect plan. You don’t need our instructions, and Your guidance is always flawless. Lead us as we walk by faith, knowing that You are directing every step. Strengthen us with the confidence to trust You completely.”

A Walk of Eternal Purpose

Our journey with God begins with a single step of faith, but it doesn’t end there. Unlike a physical journey that spans a set distance, our walk with God is eternal, leading us toward our heavenly home. Hebrews 12:1–3 emphasizes that we are not called to run alone but as a community of believers, supported by God’s Spirit and the encouragement of His Word.

Even if you feel isolated, remember this truth: Heaven sees you, and God is always with you. As Revelation highlights, God’s Spirit knows all, sees all, and is actively present in our lives. The same Spirit empowers us to persevere, no matter the challenges we face.

Living with Eternal Perspective

Hebrews 12 encourages us to fix our eyes on Jesus, the ultimate example of endurance and faith. He endured the cross with joy, knowing the eternal victory it would bring. Likewise, we are called to endure, focusing on the joy of eternal life with Him.

So, whether you’re surrounded by fellow believers or feel like the only Christian in a distant place, take heart. You are part of a greater story, one that spans generations and extends into eternity. Together, let us run the race, throw off every hindrance, and live with the confidence that God is guiding us every step of the way.

Join us in this walk of faith—stay encouraged, stay connected, and fix your eyes on Jesus. Amen.
