The Significance of the Shedding of Innocent Blood
Throughout the history of Israel, few sins provoked God’s judgement as fiercely as the sacrifice of children. The Lord, through His prophets, rebuked Israel for turning from Him and filling the land with the blood of the innocent. This wasn’t simply about idolatry or missing the mark in ceremonial rituals; it was about the profound violation of God’s heart for life itself. The same grievous sin continues across the globe today, most notably through the practice of abortion a reality that far surpasses even the ancient injustices in both scale and scope.
Modern statistics reveal a staggering tragedy: over a billion children worldwide have never had the opportunity to take a breath and live the life God ordained for them. Shockingly, while communist China remains the nation with the highest number of abortions, the United States a nation founded on Christian values has also been at the forefront, both shaping cultural perspectives and influencing legislation that enabled abortion across much of the world. This alone warrants sober reflection for all Americans, especially those who call themselves followers of Christ.
Divine Interruptions and Responding to God’s Timing
When God orchestrates something monumental, His hand is evident, and the enemy wastes no opportunity to interfere. Behind the scenes of filming “The Harbinger of Things to Come” were repeated, intense spiritual obstacles. Seemingly minor mishaps illness striking suddenly, strange encounters on city streets, and even birds behaving with aggressive precision served as reminders that spiritual warfare is undeniably real. Yet, throughout every challenge, God’s sovereignty prevailed. He opened doors, changed plans, and led His people according to His divine schedule, not human agendas.
These interruptions are not merely inconveniences; they are telltale signs that the hedges of spiritual realms are being pressed upon. Like the ancient prophets, modern-day believers must recognize these as both warnings and confirmations. If opposition arises as you seek God’s will, rejoice. Such resistance often means you are treading the path intended for you, and your faithfulness will not be in vain.
The Mystery of Jeremiah and Modern-Day America
The story of Jeremiah powerfully illustrates the seriousness of shedding innocent blood. In Jeremiah 19, God commands the prophet to purchase a potter’s jar, gather the spiritual leaders, and declare a word of judgement in the Valley of Ben Hinnom. This valley destined to become known as Gehenna, a Hebrew symbol for hell served as the physical location for child sacrifice during those dark days.
The Lord was clear: disaster would befall the nation because it “filled this place with the blood of the innocent.” Just as the land was scarred by unthinkable acts in ancient times, current events echo this same spiritual crisis. The passage warns that, “because you filled it with your children’s blood, it will be filled with your own.” It is a sobering reminder that God’s justice does not change.
A Modern Parable: New York and the Spiritual Wake-Up Call
Fast forward to the present, and we see direct parallels in America’s actions and consequences. New York, historically a leader in legislative change, pushed the boundaries even further when lawmakers celebrated the expansion of abortion rights up to the moment of birth. Not only did these decision-makers cheer the passing of these laws, but they also marked the occasion by illuminating the World Trade Center in pink a color meant to commemorate, but which instead stands as a chilling monument to innocent lives lost.
Some might view these as separate, unrelated events. However, when looking at the timeline, God’s Word and history seem intertwined. Shockingly, the global pandemic entered America precisely one year after New York enacted this notorious law on January 22nd. This isn’t just any date; it is the very same day in 1973 when the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion nationwide through Roe v. Wade. The question arises: are these just coincidences, or is God’s mercy sounding a deafening alarm, urging repentance?
The Generational Connection and the Role of the Church
Jeremiah’s prophecy declared that judgement falls not just randomly, but specifically on places where the most egregious acts were committed. For America, New York remains the state where more children have lost their lives to abortion than anywhere else in the country. Is it any wonder the city that never sleeps became the epicenter of the early pandemic in the U.S.?
There are layers to God’s judgement, as scripture reveals. It’s communal and generational. Jeremiah noted that the plague and disaster would impact all righteous and unrighteous alike. While this does not mean that every suffering or illness is a direct result of a specific sin, it does signal the consequences that occur when a nation as a whole abandons its foundational values. The generation that enshrined abortion into law is now the same generation that experienced the full force of crisis, as the virus disproportionately affected the elderly those who, decades earlier, permitted this tragic “right” to become law.
The numbers are telling: while Israel was judged for the loss of thousands, America’s total reaches over 60 million unborn children. This is not simply a statistic it is a piercing cry for intercession and action.
