Jack Hibbs : LIFT Daily Prayer: Be Content in the Lord
True Contentment: Finding Peace in God Alone
Good morning, friends. Today is Tuesday, November 4th, and our reflection comes from Hebrews 13:5:
“Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for God has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’”
This verse holds a profound truth: contentment is found in God, not in wealth. Too often, we chase money, fame, or possessions, believing they will bring us satisfaction. But true peace only comes when we trust that God’s presence is enough.
Consider this: if we truly believe God will never leave us, then we do not need to love money. Contentment is not about how much we have—it’s about where our heart rests. Some of the happiest people in the world live with very little, yet their hearts are full. Others may have billions and still feel empty because their treasure is in what they possess, not in God.
This is not to say God does not bless hard work or wealth. But when wealth becomes our pursuit, when likes, fame, or material gain become our god, our soul will never know true rest. Hebrews 13:5 reminds us that our contentment, our peace, and our joy come from God alone.
If all else were stripped away, like Job, would we still love God more than money or possessions? This is the challenge before us: to anchor our hearts in Him and not in the fleeting things of this world.
So today, be thankful for what you have. Rest in God’s promises. Let Him fill your heart with peace, knowing He will never leave or forsake you. Our true wealth is not gold, stocks, or fame—it is the assurance of His presence, His love, and the salvation through Jesus Christ.
Father, in Jesus’ name, renew in us a heart of thankfulness and worship. Teach us to find joy in what You have given and to trust fully in Your care. May we rest in Your promise today, tomorrow, and always. Amen.
