How To Renew Your Thought Life

Jonathan Cahn unveils the ancient key to walking in victory—through the transforming power of a mind renewed by God.

Transforming Your Thought Life in God

If you are a child of God, a minister, or a servant of the Lord, your thought life matters. God desires your thoughts to be consistent with your faith and with the way you live. He has given you the power to align your mind with His will so that your thoughts are not scattered or out of control, but filled with His Spirit and truth.

The Bible says: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing, and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)

Your thought life is the foundation of everything else in your journey. In Hebrew, the word rosh means “head” or “beginning.” Your head—your mind—is the starting point of your actions, habits, victories, temptations, relationships, family, ministry, and destiny. Everything begins in your thought life.

The Greek word psyche connects the mind to the soul. Scripture reveals that your mind is where life is birthed. Another Hebrew word, reshit, means “first fruits.” Your thoughts are the first fruits of the rest of your life. What you allow in your mind will eventually shape your reality.

Two people can be in the same situation and live completely different lives. One person may be miserable while another is filled with joy—because what is happening inside is more important than what is happening outside. Paul was in prison yet lived in victory because of his inner life with God.

The Bible says: “For the despondent, every day brings trouble; for the cheerful heart, life is a continual feast.” (Proverbs 15:15)

  • If your mind is filled with bitterness, anger, fear, jealousy, or ungratefulness, your life will reflect that misery.

  • But if your heart is filled with gratitude, praise, joy, and thanksgiving, even in poverty, you can live a life of abundance and blessing.

Your inner life shapes your outer life. If your thought life is divided, your life will be divided. If your thoughts are scattered, your life will be scattered. But if your mind is renewed in God, your life will be transformed.

Taking Control of Your Thoughts

Many people feel that their thoughts are beyond their control, like unwanted pop-ups on a screen. But the Bible says otherwise. You are not a victim of your thoughts—you have the power to take authority over them.

Jesus said to love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. That means you can choose what to think about. Your mind is not meant to control you—you are called to submit your mind to God and use it for His glory.
