A Faith That Puts God Second
A Faith That Puts God Second
Let’s start with an easy question today. If you’re a Christian and a follower of Jesus, take a moment to answer this in the comments: What should be the first priority in your life?
It’s simple—the answer starts with “G” and rhymes with “God.” If you’re a believer, the answer is clear: God should come first.
Putting God First
The Bible teaches us in Matthew 6:33:
“Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”
Jesus also said that the greatest commandment is to:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.” (Mark 12:30)
So, if we truly follow Christ, God must be our number one priority. But here’s the challenge—do our lives reflect that?
Are We Really Putting God First?
Many of us say that God is first, but when we look at our daily lives, our choices often tell a different story.
Let’s break it down:
What are the key priorities in life? Think about it for a moment. Some might say:
✅ God
✅ Marriage & Family
✅ Career & Work
✅ Finances & Material Needs
✅ Hobbies & Personal Interests
Now, imagine these priorities as a series of chairs.
- Chair #1: The most important thing in life
- Chair #2: Important, but not the top priority
- Chair #3: The third most important thing
- And so on…
Now, if we truly follow Jesus, what should go in Chair #1? God.
What should go in Chair #2? Family.
But is this how most of us actually live?
When God Gets Pushed Aside
For many people, life looks different:
1️⃣ Career and work take the top spot—long hours, endless meetings, deadlines.
2️⃣ Family gets whatever time is left after work.
3️⃣ Money, finances, and paying the bills become the next priority.
4️⃣ Hobbies—whether it’s sports, gaming, or personal interests—get a big share of our time.
5️⃣ And finally… God gets whatever is left over.
The reality is, we say “God is first,” but our schedules and actions often say something else.
A Faith That Puts God Second
The title of today’s message is: “A Faith That Puts God Second.”
Let’s take a moment to pray:
Heavenly Father, we acknowledge that You are King over all. You are our loving and sovereign Lord. Your Word tells us to put You first in all things, but we confess that we don’t always do that. Today, we ask that through Your living Word and the power of Your Holy Spirit, You help us realign our hearts. May we truly put You first in everything we do. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
