Lisa Harper Daily Devotional – October 06, 2026
If this morning finds you weary, worried, or just walking through another “ordinary” Tuesday that doesn’t feel very spiritual, you are not alone. God sees the dishes in your sink, the unread emails, the quiet tears you hide in the shower, and the ache you can’t quite name. Today’s devotional is a gentle reminder that the Lord is not far away from any of that—He is right in the middle of it, holding you together even when you feel like you’re falling apart. As you read, let your heart breathe. You don’t have to perform for God today; you just have to come.
Hope for the Heart That’s Hanging On
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18, ESV) This verse is like a soft blanket for a shivering soul. It doesn’t say God is near only to the strong, the confident, or the “have-it-all-together” believers. It says He draws close to the brokenhearted, the ones who feel crushed and exhausted by life. If your spirit feels bruised today—by disappointment, by bad news, by conflict, or by the slow grind of daily responsibilities—Scripture declares that God has moved in closer, not farther away. His nearness is not measured by how you feel but by what He has promised.
Walking in Trust When Life Feels Uncertain
Trusting God in theory is easy; trusting Him in traffic, in medical waiting rooms, in tight budgets, and tense conversations is where faith becomes real. One practical way to walk in trust today is to pause before reacting. Before you answer that email, respond to that text, or rehearse that argument in your head, whisper, “Jesus, lead my next step.” Write Psalm 34:18 somewhere visible—on a sticky note, your bathroom mirror, or your phone’s lock screen—and every time you see it, exhale and say, “Lord, You are near. I receive Your nearness.” Let that simple, repeated turning of your heart become a quiet rhythm of worship in the middle of your day.
Strengthening Faith in a Faithful God
Father, today I lift my faith before You like a small offering, asking You to breathe on it. Where my belief has grown thin and threadbare, mend it with Your truth. When fears about the future rise up, remind me that my times are in Your hands. I surrender my need to control outcomes and choose instead to trust Your character—good, faithful, and kind. Grow in me a steady confidence that You are at work in ways I cannot see. Teach me to anchor my faith not in changing circumstances but in Your unchanging Word and Your unfailing love.
Covering Our Homes in God’s Peace
Lord Jesus, I bring my family and every relationship connected to my life before You. Step into our homes and hearts with Your peace. Where there has been tension, let understanding replace harsh words. Where there is distance or silence, soften hearts and open doors for honest, grace-filled conversation. Protect our children and loved ones—guard their minds, bodies, and spirits. Heal old wounds, break unhealthy patterns, and knit us together in Your love. May our homes become places where forgiveness is normal, encouragement is spoken freely, and Your presence is tangibly felt.
Healing for Body, Mind, and Soul
God of compassion, You know every ache, diagnosis, and unspoken symptom. I bring my body, my mind, and my emotions to You. Where there is pain, send relief. Where there is sickness, release Your healing power. Where there is anxiety, pour out Your calm. Cover every test result, every medication, and every doctor’s appointment with Your wisdom and care. Strengthen my immune system, my energy, and my resilience. And for the emotional wounds I rarely name, gently touch the places I keep hidden. Remind me that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit and that You are committed to my wholeness.
Work, Finances, and Daily Provision
Lord, You see my job, my responsibilities, and my financial pressures. I invite You into my workday—whether I am in an office, at home, in a classroom, on the road, or searching for employment. Grant me favor with supervisors, coworkers, and clients. Sharpen my mind, focus my efforts, and help me work as unto You, not just for a paycheck.
