The Birth of Jesus Christ: A Divine Miracle

The birth of Jesus Christ unfolded in a remarkable way. His mother, Mary, was betrothed to Joseph. Before they came together, it was discovered that she was with child, and the child was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Imagine the scandal this would have caused—two young teenagers, engaged, with the fate of the world resting on their shoulders. It’s hard to fathom, but it’s the divine plan at work.

Picture this scenario: a young man, let’s say, Brad, comes home to his mother and says, “Mom, I need to talk to you. The woman I’m engaged to, Mary, is pregnant. But don’t worry, we’ve been living right before God. It’s just that she was minding her business when the Holy Spirit overshadowed her, and she conceived.” As a mother, you might think, “Brad, what are you talking about?” It would seem unbelievable. However, this incredible event reflects the most beautiful truth—God incarnate, Divinity wrapped in humanity.

The Bible tells us that Joseph, her fiancé, was a just man. He didn’t want to disgrace Mary publicly, so he considered quietly ending their engagement. But while he was contemplating this, an angel appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife, for the child conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you will call Him Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

This was to fulfill what the prophet had said: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call Him Emmanuel,” which means “God with us.”

Let’s pause here. Emmanuel—God with us. This truth is not just a historical fact; it’s a divine promise. Joseph, following the angel’s instructions, took Mary as his wife and did not consummate the marriage until she had given birth to Jesus.

Jesus, Emmanuel—God with us. The literal Hebrew translation of Emmanuel means “With us is God.” This is more than a name; it’s a powerful declaration of God’s presence. As believers, we can say, “With us is God.” Each day, we step into God’s divine destiny because God is with us, personally.

When the Bible says, “A virgin shall conceive and bear a son,” it wasn’t referring to everyone. It’s not a universal message for all people; it’s a promise for those who are His followers, for those who walk with God. Emmanuel is God with us—He is with His people.

As you rest tonight, remember: “With us is God.” When you wake up each morning, know that whatever that day holds, God is with you. Matthew 1:23 reminds us that “Emmanuel” means “God with us,” and in Matthew 28:20, Jesus promises, “I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

God desires a relationship with us. He’s not just about rituals, routine, or religion—although those have their place. At the core of it all, God’s heart is for relationship. He wants to dwell with us, as we see in Exodus 25:8, “Let them make Me a sanctuary, that I may dwell among them.” God is a covenant-keeping God, a promise-keeping God.

Though God may not always reveal all the details of our destiny, we can trust in His promises. Psalm 89:34 assures us, “My covenant will not be broken.” Union with Christ is the foundation of all spiritual blessings, as stated in John 15 and 1 Corinthians 6:17. Through our union with Christ, we receive every spiritual blessing.
