The Baptism of the Holy Spirit described in Acts chapter 2 fostered profound boldness and courage among individual believers and within the newly forming church, known as the “ekklesia.” Jesus Himself used this term “ekklesia” 113 times in the New Testament, highlighting its significance. Today, this powerful baptism continues to impact believers both individually and corporately, ushering in a fresh mindset of spiritual boldness and determination.

Palm Sunday vividly illustrates this courageous mindset, with Jesus demonstrating immense resolve as He entered Jerusalem. The Holy Spirit is actively cultivating this warrior-like mentality within the Body of Christ, particularly significant during the Hebrew month of Nissan—a pivotal period historically marked by transition and victory. Many believers recognize this time of the year, often highlighted by teachings like those of Dutch Sheets in his “Give Him 15” series, as essential for resetting our mindset for spiritual triumph.

Historical shifts from Exodus to entering the Promised Land, and ultimately to Christ’s resurrection, signify profound victories associated with this time. The narrative of Palm Sunday from Matthew 21 showcases Jesus’ deliberate act of courage and prophetic fulfillment:

As Jesus approached Jerusalem, arriving at Bethphage on the Mount of Olives, He instructed two disciples to fetch a donkey and her colt from the nearby village. “If anyone questions you,” He said, “tell them, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and they will send them immediately.” This act fulfilled the prophecy: “Tell the daughter of Zion, behold your king comes, humble and riding on a donkey, the colt of a donkey.”

Following Jesus’ instructions, the disciples brought the animals, placing their cloaks on them for Jesus to sit upon. A large crowd gathered, spreading cloaks and tree branches on the road, joyously shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” The entire city stirred, questioning, “Who is this?” The crowds proclaimed, “This is Jesus, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”

Upon entering Jerusalem, Jesus boldly cleansed the temple, overturning tables and declaring, “My house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.” Subsequently, He healed the blind and lame, prompting children to exclaim, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” Despite religious leaders’ indignation, Jesus affirmed these praises, referencing Scripture: “From the mouths of infants and nursing babies, You have perfected praise.”

Reflecting on this triumphant entry inspires believers today. Jesus, fully aware of the imminent crucifixion, purposefully embraced His destiny, determined to fulfill His divine mission. Despite knowing the pain ahead, He refused supernatural rescue, steadfastly choosing to accomplish humanity’s redemption through His sacrifice on the cross.

This unwavering commitment exemplified on Palm Sunday calls the modern church—the ekklesia—to emulate such courageous resolve. Today, believers must actively embody a fierce dedication, influencing communities, cities, and nations through God’s supernatural power. Though not riding a donkey as Christ did, Christians now move forward empowered by the spiritual river of God’s presence, clearly aware of their divine calling, identity, and the authority already granted by Christ Himself.

Now is the moment for the ekklesia to rise confidently and boldly, reflecting the courageous spirit of Jesus Christ, shaping a world through relentless faith and divine influence.
