John MacArthur Daily Devotional – October 18, 2026
If your heart feels a little worn today—maybe from the headlines, the pressures at home, or the quiet battles no one else sees—you are not alone. God has not forgotten you, and He is not late. He is working, even in the details that seem small, and in the questions that don’t yet have answers. As you pause with this devotional, take a slow breath and remember: your life is held in the steady, unshakable hands of a faithful God. Today, let the Holy Spirit use His Word to steady your mind, calm your heart, and renew your trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Anchored in an Unshakable Promise
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8, ESV) In a world where everything changes—jobs, health, relationships, even our emotions—this verse is like bedrock under our feet. The Christ who saved you is the Christ who keeps you. The Jesus who forgave you on your worst day is the same Jesus walking with you on this day. He doesn’t wake up less loving. He doesn’t grow tired of you. His grace does not thin out over time. Because He never changes, you can face changing circumstances without fear. Your hope is not anchored in what you see today, but in who He has always been and always will be.
Walking by Faith in an Uncertain World
Your life right now may feel like a mix of ordinary routines and hidden burdens. God sees both. Faith is not pretending everything is okay; it is choosing to trust God when you cannot yet see how He will work it out. Today, invite Him into the ordinary: your commute, your conversations, your decisions. Open your Bible, even if for a few minutes, and let His truth realign your thinking. When anxiety rises, whisper, “Lord, I trust You more than what I feel.” When you are tempted to complain, choose gratitude. When you feel weak, remember His strength is made perfect in your weakness. Step by step, choice by choice, you are growing—rooted deeper in Christ, even when you do not notice it.
Drawing Near in Faith and Growth
Father, in the name of Jesus, I bring my faith before You today. Strengthen what feels fragile. Where my trust has grown thin, breathe new life. Teach me to value Your Word above my opinions, Your promises above my fears, and Your presence above every distraction. Grow in me a love for righteousness and a hatred for sin. Help me to turn quickly from anything that grieves Your Spirit. Deepen my hunger to know Christ more clearly, follow Him more closely, and love Him more dearly. Shape my character so that my words, choices, and attitudes reflect the heart of Jesus to everyone around me.
Covering Our Homes with God’s Peace
Lord, I lift my family and loved ones to You. Step into our homes with Your peace, Your order, and Your joy. Heal broken communication, soften hard hearts, and restore what the enemy has tried to tear apart. Guard our marriages, protect our children, and comfort the lonely and hurting in our families. Let forgiveness replace bitterness, and patience replace anger. May our home be a small sanctuary where Your name is honored, Your Word is respected, and Your presence is welcomed. Surround each loved one—near or far—with Your mercy, and draw every heart closer to Jesus.
Strength for Body, Mind, and Heart
Heavenly Father, You know every ache, diagnosis, and silent fear. I ask for Your healing touch over my body and emotions today. Strengthen my immune system, clear my mind, and calm my anxious thoughts. Where there is pain, bring relief. Where there is fatigue, bring fresh energy. Where there is emotional heaviness, pour in Your comfort and joy. Guard me from discouragement and hopelessness. Help me steward my health wisely—through rest, wise choices, and dependence on You. Remind me that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and that whether in weakness or strength, my life can bring glory to Your name.
Work, Finances, and Daily Provision
Lord, You are my provider and my source. I place my job, my income, and my financial concerns into Your hands. Give me diligence and excellence in my work. Open doors no one can shut and close doors that are not from You. For those seasons of lack, supply
