Alistair Begg Daily Devotional – October 17, 2026: Holding Fast in a Shaking World

If your heart feels a little unsteady today, you are not alone. News headlines shift by the hour, responsibilities pile up, and the quiet worries that no one sees can weigh the heaviest. Yet right now, in this very moment, the Lord knows your name, your needs, and your fears. He has not misplaced you. He has not grown tired of you. Today’s devotional is an invitation to catch your breath in the presence of God, to anchor your soul in His unchanging love, and to remember that in Christ you are never abandoned, never overlooked, and never without hope.

Anchored in a Unshakable Promise

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8, ESV)

In a world that constantly changes, this truth stands tall and unbroken: Jesus does not change. The same Savior who walked the dusty roads of Galilee, who calmed storms and welcomed sinners, is the One who walks with you into your Monday morning, your doctor’s appointment, your financial concerns, and your private heartache. His character is steady when your circumstances are not. His love is fixed when your feelings fluctuate. Because He is the same, His promises are the same—reliable, strong, and sufficient for everything you face today.

Living Steadfast in Everyday Moments

Knowing that Jesus never changes reshapes how we move through our day. You don’t have to pretend to be strong; you can lean on the One who is. When anxiety starts to rise, you can whisper, “Lord, You have not changed. Be my peace right now.” When temptation comes, you can remember that the same power that raised Christ from the dead is at work in you. Practically, this means pausing before you react, asking God for wisdom before you speak, and choosing to trust Scripture more than your swirling emotions. Spiritual growth rarely happens in dramatic moments; it usually happens in these quiet, unseen choices to turn your heart toward Christ again and again.

Drawing Near in Faith and Surrender

Father, today I choose to trust You even when I do not understand what You are doing. Strengthen my faith where it feels thin and fragile. Teach me to surrender my plans, my timelines, and my expectations to Your wiser, kinder will. Grow in me a deeper love for Your Word, and a stronger desire to obey You, not out of fear, but out of gratitude for grace. Keep my heart soft, my mind renewed, and my spirit responsive to Your leading, so that I may walk by faith and not by sight.

Placing Our Families into God’s Hands

Lord, I lift my family and loved ones to You. Where there is tension, bring understanding. Where there is distance, build bridges. Cover our home with Your peace and teach us to forgive quickly, to speak gently, and to listen well. Guard our marriages, protect our children, comfort our aging parents, and knit our hearts together in Christ. May our households be places where Your name is honored, Your Word is cherished, and Your love is both felt and shared.

Resting in God’s Care for Our Bodies and Minds

Gracious Healer, I bring my health and the health of those I love before You. For every diagnosis, every lingering pain, every hidden fear, I ask for Your touch. Strengthen weary bodies, calm anxious hearts, and bring clarity where there is confusion. Grant wisdom to doctors, nurses, and caregivers. Help me honor You with my body, my habits, and my rest. When healing is slow or incomplete, surround me with Your comfort and remind me that my ultimate hope is not in medical reports but in the promise of resurrection life in Christ.

Trusting God with Work and Provision

Lord, You see my work, whether it’s at a job site, in an office, at home, or in the unseen labor of caregiving. Bless the work of my hands. Open doors that no one can shut, and shut doors that are not from You. Provide steady income, wise stewardship, and freedom from the fear of not having enough. Give me integrity in every decision, diligence in every task, and favor with those I serve and those I lead. Remind me that You are my ultimate Provider, and that my security rests not in a paycheck, but in Your faithful care.
