Tony Evans Daily Devotional – October 17, 2026: Trusting God in the Middle of the Story
If you are reading this today, there is a good chance you are standing in the middle of something unfinished—a prayer not yet answered, a battle not yet won, a door not yet opened. Maybe your heart is tired, your mind is cluttered, and you wonder if God still sees you. On this October 17, 2026, let this devotional be a gentle reminder: God is not finished with your story, and His hand has not slipped from your life for a single moment. He is writing in strokes you cannot always see, but He is faithful, and He is near. Today, let’s lean into hope, strengthen our faith, and choose to trust the God who never wastes a tear, a trial, or a single day.
Anchored by a Greater Reality
“We walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinthians 5:7, NKJV) This short verse carries a lifetime of encouragement. To walk by faith means we let God’s Word define reality more than what we feel, see, or understand. Sight says, “There is no way out.” Faith says, “God will make a way.” Sight says, “This is the end.” Faith says, “God is still working behind the scenes.” When we choose faith over sight, we are not pretending our problems are small; we are declaring that our God is bigger. Your circumstances today may be loud, but His promises are louder. Hold on to this verse as your anchor: you are not walking alone, and you are not walking in the dark—His Word is your light.
Living Faith in Real-Life Moments
Faith is not only for Sunday sermons or crisis moments; it is for the everyday decisions that shape your life. When worry creeps in about bills, children, health, or the future, you have a choice: spiral into fear or step into faith. Faith looks like pausing before you speak in anger. It looks like praying before you answer that difficult email. It looks like forgiving when it would be easier to hold a grudge. As you move through your day—commuting to work, preparing meals, attending meetings, caring for your family—remember that every small “yes” to God grows your spiritual muscles. Ask the Lord, “Show me how to honor You in this next moment,” and then move forward trusting that He will guide your steps, even when you can’t see the full path.
Turning Your Heart Toward Spiritual Growth
Father, today I lift my faith before You. Strengthen the places where I feel weak and uncertain. I confess that at times I have trusted my own understanding more than Your Word. Forgive me for letting fear, doubt, and frustration lead my decisions. Teach me to walk by faith, not by sight. Deepen my hunger for Your presence and Your truth. Help me to open my Bible with expectation, to listen for Your voice in prayer, and to obey quickly when You speak. Grow me beyond a shallow, convenient faith into a mature, steadfast trust in You. Lord, I surrender my timeline, my plans, and my preferences. Form Christ in me. Let my life display Your goodness, even when I do not have all the answers. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Covering Our Homes with God’s Peace
Lord, I place my family and loved ones in Your faithful hands. You know every tension, hidden hurt, and unspoken need in our homes. Bring Your peace into our conversations and Your love into our interactions. Heal broken relationships, soften hardened hearts, and restore respect, tenderness, and understanding. Protect our marriages, our children, our parents, and every relative near and far. Where there is distance, create connection. Where there is confusion, bring clarity. Let our homes be shelters of grace, not battlegrounds of bitterness. May Your presence rule in our living rooms, kitchens, bedrooms, and even in our text messages and phone calls. Guard our families from the schemes of the enemy and make our houses places where Your name is honored and Your joy is felt.
Strength for Bodies, Minds, and Emotions
Gracious Healer, I lift my health and the health of my loved ones to You. You see every diagnosis, every symptom, every sleepless night, and every silent fear. Touch our bodies with Your healing power. Strengthen immune systems, ease chronic pain, and guide doctors, nurses, and caregivers with wisdom and skill. For those fighting anxiety, depression, or emotional exhaustion
