Trusting God in the Middle of the Story – Lysa TerKeurst Daily Devotional October 12, 2026
If your heart feels a little tender today, you are not alone. Maybe you woke up with questions that don’t have clear answers, or you’re carrying a weight you can’t quite put into words. On days like this, it can feel like God is silent or distant. But what if, right in the middle of the uncertainty, God is actually writing a deeper story of trust, surrender, and hope in your life? Today, let’s lean in together and let the Holy Spirit whisper truth into the places that feel fragile. God has not forgotten you. He is not late. He is right here, right now, faithfully working in the middle of your story.
Anchored by a Promise
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5–6, NIV) This verse doesn’t ask us to understand everything; it asks us to trust the One who understands everything. Leaning on our own understanding often leads to anxiety, control, and fear. But when we choose to submit our plans, pain, and questions to God, He promises to direct our steps. Straight doesn’t always mean easy, but it does mean purposeful, guided, and covered by His wisdom and love.
When Your Heart Wants Answers More Than Trust
There are seasons when we crave explanations more than we crave God’s presence. We want to know why the door closed, why the relationship broke, why the diagnosis came, why the answer was “not yet.” But Scripture repeatedly invites us to trust first and see later. Today, you can take one small step of obedience instead of waiting for perfect clarity. Maybe it’s making that phone call, forgiving that person, starting that journal, going back to church, or simply opening your Bible when you feel nothing. Faith grows not in the moments when everything makes sense, but in the moments when we say, “Lord, I don’t understand, but I choose You anyway.” Let your questions drive you closer to God, not further away.
Drawing Near in Faith and Surrender
Father, today we bring You our uncertainties, our disappointments, and every place where our faith feels thin. Strengthen our trust in You. Help us to release control and surrender our own timelines, expectations, and demands. Grow in us a faith that doesn’t depend on immediate outcomes, but rests in Your unchanging character. Teach us to seek Your presence more than Your explanations, to listen for Your voice in Your Word, and to respond with obedience even when we feel afraid. Deepen our roots in Christ so that when winds of change blow, we remain steady, secure, and anchored in Your love.
Covering Our Homes with Peace
Lord, we lift our families and loved ones to You. You see every strained conversation, every unspoken fear, every hidden hurt. Bring Your peace into our homes today. Heal broken relationships, soften hardened hearts, and help us choose patience over irritation, kindness over criticism, and listening over quick judgments. Protect our marriages, our children, our parents, and those we love who are far from You. Draw wandering hearts back to Your truth. May our homes become places where forgiveness is given freely, encouragement is spoken often, and Your presence is felt in the everyday moments around the table, in the car, and behind closed doors.
Strength for Body, Mind, and Soul
Jesus, You know the aches in our bodies and the weariness in our souls. For those battling sickness, chronic pain, or lingering fatigue, would You bring healing, relief, and strength? For those carrying anxiety, depression, or emotional exhaustion, would You speak peace into swirling thoughts and racing hearts? Help us to care for our bodies wisely, to rest when we need it, to seek help when appropriate, and to remember that weakness does not disqualify us from Your love. Remind us that our limitations are invitations to lean on Your limitless grace. Renew our energy, steady our emotions, and surround us with people who will pray, support, and encourage us.
Work, Calling, and Daily Provision
Father, we invite You into our work, our responsibilities, and our finances. For those who are employed, grant wisdom, diligence, creativity, and favor. Help us to work as unto You, not just for a paycheck or human approval. For those who are
