Your Calling To Be A Heavenly Builder | Jonathan Cahn Sermon
Your calling from God is not centered on wealth or career success. While God may bless you in those areas, that is not the purpose of your calling. Your true mission is to build up God’s kingdom and fulfill His purposes in this world. Every one of us has a divine calling. You might not yet recognize it, or you may feel uncertain about it, but it’s there.
As Paul wrote, we are to “walk in a manner worthy of the high and holy calling” placed upon our lives. This calling is sacred, significant, and unique. But fulfilling it is not automatic. You might think that because God has given you this calling, He will ensure its fulfillment. However, God has entrusted it to you. He provides the strength, guidance, and resources, but it’s your responsibility to act.
Challenges in Answering God’s Call
Every divine calling faces obstacles. The enemy opposes God’s purposes, which means you may encounter setbacks, distractions, temptations, apathy, discouragement, and even spiritual warfare. But how can you overcome these challenges and ensure you fulfill your calling?
Let’s draw lessons from the life of Nehemiah, a man called by God to accomplish a monumental task: rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. This mission was critical for the coming of the Messiah and, ultimately, for your salvation. Nehemiah faced relentless opposition, but his story provides us with powerful and practical keys to fulfilling our callings.
Who Was Nehemiah?
Nehemiah’s name means “the comfort of God,” and his life embodied this. He was an Israelite living in exile in the Persian Empire, serving as the cupbearer to King Artaxerxes. This was a position of great trust and influence, as he ensured the king’s drink was safe from poison.
When Nehemiah learned that Jerusalem’s walls lay in ruins, he was deeply grieved. His sorrow caught the king’s attention, and Nehemiah boldly explained his burden:
“Why should my face not be sad when the city of my ancestors lies in ruins, and its gates are destroyed by fire?” (Nehemiah 2:3).
Moved by Nehemiah’s passion, the king granted him permission to return to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls, even appointing him governor. This was a pivotal moment in history, around 468 BC, as Nehemiah set out to fulfill God’s will against all odds.

Before speaking to the king, Nehemiah prayed to the God of heaven. Prayer was his foundation, ensuring his plans aligned with God’s will. - Boldly Pursue Your Mission
