You Can Overcome Your Insecurity | Steven Furtick

How Can We Pray For You? Have you signed up yet?

What hidden insecurities are lingering beneath the surface of your life right now—insecurities that God wants to address? The truth is, we often don’t recognize insecurity for what it is. No one walks around saying, “Please pray for my insecurity.” Instead, we say things like, “I’ve been worrying a lot lately.” But why are we worrying? Because deep down, we feel insecure.

We convince ourselves that our stress is just a reaction to life’s chaos, that our concerns are valid because of difficult circumstances. However, if we truly believed that we are blessed—if we deeply trusted that God provides for us—our perspective would change. As Jesus reminds us in Matthew 6:26, the birds neither sow nor reap, yet our Heavenly Father feeds them. So why do we struggle with trust?

The root of insecurity is the fear that we don’t have what we need for where we are. Maybe in one area of life, we feel confident, but in another, we doubt ourselves. A student may excel in academics but feel lost on the soccer field. Another may struggle in school but dominate in sports. The reality is, everyone has something they aren’t naturally good at.

Embracing Your God-Given Purpose

God created each of us with a unique purpose. He commanded the fish to fill the seas and the birds to fill the sky—and both were blessed in their rightful place. Just like them, we are blessed when we function in the role God designed for us.

There’s a quote often attributed to Albert Einstein: “If you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid.” Many of us feel inadequate because we are trying to operate outside of our God-given purpose. Some of us are like fish trying to fly, while others are like birds trying to swim.

Stop Comparing—Start Thriving

Insecurity often comes from comparison. We look at others and wish we had their talents, their lives, their opportunities. But God didn’t create us to be someone else—He created us to fulfill a unique calling. Romans 12:2 reminds us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

Like Ariel in The Little Mermaid, who longed to live on land despite being made for the sea, we sometimes chase after things that aren’t meant for us. But God is not King Triton, bending to our desires—He has designed us for a specific purpose. He will not give wings to a fish or fins to a bird. Instead, He calls us to thrive exactly where He has placed us.

So today, instead of dwelling on what you lack, trust that God has given you everything you need. Step fully into your purpose and move with confidence in the role He created for you.
