You Can Be Satisfied | Lisa Harper | Elevation Church

How Can We Pray For You? Have you signed up yet?

When Pastor Steven and Holly first invited me to come to Elevation Church, I honestly thought they were mistaken. I absolutely love this house, but I didn’t know if they were confusing me with someone else! Pastor Tim, you’ve got some moves! I thought, “Wow, he’s only been a believer for a short time, because those moves are straight-up ‘Before Christ’ rhythms!”

But I was excited for my first visit because I knew this church had taught me so much about Jesus. At first, I thought Pastor Steven might have confused me with Lisa Bevere—if you know who she is, you understand. She’s an incredible speaker, with so much more authority than I have, and she often preaches in leather pants. I remember thinking, “To keep up with this, I might have to wear leather pants to Elevation!” The reality, though? When I wear leather pants, it sounds like ducks being killed—not quite the look I’m going for!

To my relief, I found out that Elevation knew I wasn’t Lisa Bevere, and that was a huge weight off my shoulders. Now, getting to be here with all of you is pure grace. It’s such an honor to be part of this community. I deeply respect what God has done and is continuing to do through Elevation, Pastor Steven, Holly, and the entire team.

Right now, I’m in the middle of a 40-day sugar fast, but when I got the call from Chunks, I thought, “I’m breaking that fast—Elevation’s calling!” There’s no sweeter place than this, and I’m so glad to be here with all of you.

Before we dive into today’s message, I do want to share a couple of quick things. First, I’m a spitter when I talk, so I apologize in advance. Don’t worry, I won’t sprinkle you, but if you’re within 15 feet, prepare to get a little wet. Second, to the tech team: this is the first time I’ve been here with an actual title! They usually have to make something up for me, since I’m creatively challenged. For those of you who are Enneagram 1s, 3s, or 8s, who like to take notes, the title of our message today is: Mick Jagger Was Wrong.

I’ll explain what that means in a moment, and I even have a secondary title for you: Bruce Springsteen Was Right. If you’re part of Gen Z and don’t know who Mick Jagger or Bruce Springsteen are, you might want to check out your Spotify playlists! These two are musical legends, but theologically, Mick Jagger was wrong.

Let’s pray before we dive into God’s Word. I encourage you to reach out and touch the person next to you if they’re your loved one. If not, please refrain from any awkward moments! If you’re listening online and driving, please keep your eyes open.

Jesus, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, the Lion and the Lamb, we thank you for your mercy and compassion. We are so grateful that you meet all of our needs according to your riches and glory. Thank you that you are always with us, never leaving us as orphans. Even in seasons when we feel lost or overlooked, your presence is real and tangible. We’re thankful for your Holy Spirit, reminding us we can call the Creator of the universe “Dad.”

We also thank you for your Word, which we need so desperately. Sometimes, we forget that the Bible is a love story, filled with reminders of how deeply you care for your people. Thank you, Jesus, for the great love you have for us.
