In today’s program, Joyce continues her series, Who Is God? Throughout the Bible, God’s names reveal His divine character and promises for our lives. He is “The Great I Am,” omnipresent and all-knowing—our ultimate source for everything we need. Best of all, God desires a close and personal relationship with each of us.

This morning, I told my team, “I’m already behind!” With nearly ten names of God to cover this weekend, it feels like I need extra time. My purpose in teaching these names is to deepen our understanding of who God is. In Scripture, names signify identity and purpose, and God’s many names reveal different facets of His character.

For instance, the name Jehovah El Elyon—“The Lord Most High”—is more than just a title; it’s a declaration that God is above all things. As we study these names, we gain a deeper, more intimate knowledge of Him. And here’s the truth: anyone who truly knows God cannot resist wanting a relationship with Him.

However, some people only maintain a surface-level or “religious” relationship with God. They may believe in Him, accept Christ, and even secure eternal life in Heaven, but they miss out on the joy of knowing Him deeply. Many prioritize other things over time with God because they don’t realize how amazing He truly is.

I spent years as a Christian keeping God confined to Sunday mornings. But when I finally invited Him into every part of my life, everything changed. Let me tell you: doing life with God is fun, fulfilling, and transformative. My desire isn’t just for people to accept Christ but for those who already know Him to know Him better—to fully enjoy a relationship with Him.

The names of God, starting with Yahweh (later rendered as Jehovah), highlight His divine nature and works. Each name reflects a unique aspect of His character. For example, Jehovah El Elyon speaks of God as “the Most High God,” the possessor of Heaven and Earth, who delivers our enemies into our hands.

In Genesis 14, Abraham called God El Elyon after a defining moment in his life. When Abram learned his nephew Lot had been captured, he rallied 318 trained men from his household to rescue him. Despite being outnumbered and facing a well-equipped enemy, Abram’s faith in El Elyon gave him the courage to act boldly.

This story reveals a powerful truth: knowing God intimately removes fear and empowers us to confront challenges head-on. When we understand who God is, we become spiritually fearless and proactive rather than passive.

Reflecting on this, I’m reminded of how America, a nation founded on biblical principles and spiritual freedom, thrived when God was at the center. As long as He was honored, the country enjoyed remarkable success and strength. However, as society increasingly distances itself from God, challenges have multiplied. This trend isn’t limited to America; it’s happening worldwide.

But here’s the reality: God created everything. He owns it all. No one can remove Him from His rightful place. Knowing and honoring El Elyon—the Most High God—empowers us to live boldly, fearlessly, and purposefully.
