The Mystery of Apostasy | Jonathan Cahn Sermon
The Mystery of Apostasy
Jonathan Cahn shares from “The Substance of Heaven”, the message reveals the nature of God, and the nature we are to live by. One runs counter to our apostate culture and with the changes happening in the end times.

The Last Supper was a Passover Seder. Every Passover contains a special mystery linked to the unleavened bread, the Matzah. The second matzah of a “trinity” of matzahs was called the “Afikomen.” The Afikomen is broken, wrapped in a cloth like a shroud, and hidden away. The children search for it and Passover can only continue when they find it. This same matzah Messiah lifted up 2,000 years ago and said, “This is My body…” Afikomen is a Greek word that can mean, “He Who Comes.” The Afikomen stands for Him who comes, the second of the Trinity, whose body is broken, shrouded in cloth, hidden away, and without which, everything comes to a halt. Every year, the Jewish people search for the Afikomen. Without knowing it, they search for Yeshua, Jesus. When they find Him, the Kingdom will come. Pray that they find their Bread of Life, and that you never lose sight of your Bread of Life. When you lose the Afikomen, everything becomes empty and life comes to a halt. Keep His presence in the center of your life and you’ll always be filled with the bread of His presence.
But it’s even more the case now because now we’re living in the age of the Bible foretold the age of apostasy.
Interesting in Hebrew. The word for year is Shana.
Try it. Rona Rosh Hashana is head of the year.
Shana comes from a root word though that means listen to repeat, to duplicate or to change the year ahead can be a repeat of the year we just had if you stay, do the same things the same way, it’ll be a repeat for you.
But it can also mean change now change in a good direction in the direction of God that’s good in his will in his image, that’s all good.
But there is a change, a realm of change that is not good.
And for that, I’m reading from Proverbs 24 21.
You can just listen or look it up either way it says, don’t associate with those given to change.
Now, the word for change here when he says that a person give it a change.
Interesting is the word as in the word for the year. What will this year bring in the world?
It will likely bring change. And with a culture will likely bring change, that’s not good, except for the hand of God.
This is the change not of God.
There is a realm of change which the Bible speaks against in scripture in, in, in James.
The book of James, it says do a double minded man, a man who changes back and forth is unstable in all his ways.
Someone who’s always changing, going back and forth is not going to be stable or strong.
It because that kind of change weakens you.
People who are given to changing emotions back and forth, stormy up down without stability.
Continually changing woman, they’re not gonna be strong, they’re not gonna be stable if you have to walk around eggshell, someone that doesn’t lead to stability or strength.
And that is that there’s another kind of change or inconsistency that is also not of God.
And that’s one who changes with what they say, they change.
They say one thing, then they say that another thing they go back and forth does not lead to strength or ones whose words are changed from their actions, their actions don’t go with their words.
They’re not consistent. You can’t depend on them. You can’t trust them because there’s no consistency.
It doesn’t say the same. It changes. And there are people who, who words just don’t mean much.
You can’t really defend or trust them. They say something, their promise doesn’t mean much.
It doesn’t matter if somebody’s in a marriage covenant, they are to love their spouse without change, no matter what happens you to love without change.
But if there are people who change their affection and they, they go from one person to go to the next person and it’s called adultery and it destroys marriages.
We have an entire culture based on unfaithfulness, changing in loyalty.
There are people who will change what they say, they will say one thing when you’re present and when your back is turned, they will change and say something that contradicts that you cannot trust those people.
It’s no loyalty don’t associate with one who’s given to change.
You may end up like them, you may end up unstable.
Sometimes you might have somebody in your life who is unstable and it destabilizes you.
If you let it, they blow with the wind, it affects you, they’re going through a storm every moment that will affect you.
Sometimes you have to stop with that person.
I’m saying if it’s a friend or associate who is given to that, you know, now I’m not talking about one spouse or one’s child or one’s parent, you have to do everything to bring redemption to it because you’re going to be a person of faithfulness.
Part of faithfulness is good times and bad. But nevertheless, you shouldn’t be letting their instability destabilize you.
You should be the one who helps stabilize the situation, stabilize them.
Now, you can take that principle of not fellowship with one given to change to the world because the world is given to change all the time, the world is unstable.
The world is always changing. Opinion polls are changing. What’s popular is always changing. What’s in style is changing.
What’s don’t fellowship with the world, don’t fellowship with, with what the popular culture does because it’s gonna change anyway, what they say is right.
They’ll change tomorrow. What’s true? They’ll change tomorrow.
So don’t associate with the world, which it says don’t have fellow, not that you don’t, you don’t affect the world, but you don’t have fellowship with this darkness.
Don’t associate the world is made up. It’s like a wave, it’s like an ocean, it goes up and down.
Don’t live your life like that or you’re gonna go up and down. And I’m talking about also circumstances.
If your peace is dependent on circumstances, you’re going to go up and down, you’re not supposed to.
Now, the world has always been changing or never stable. That’s pretty much always.
But it’s even more the case now because now we’re living in the age of the Bible, foretold the age of apostasy.
The great falling away, the word apostasy comes from the Greek Apo Stasia.
Stasia means the stand or the state of a means away from.
So apostasy is to fall away from your stand, fall away from the stand.
But that means by its nature, it’s about change.
And I’ve noticed I’ve noted a mystery in this word because Apostle means two things.
It means that the falling away from the stand that you had faith, but also means the falling away from the state of being.
So as our culture moves away from the faith, the word of God, the gospel, it will also move away from the state of being.
So it’s no accident that the same culture that moves away from the Gospel and from God will also move away from the state of being.
In other words, it will be, it will be a culture in which man or men move away from the state of manhood.
Women move away from the state of womanhood, marriage moves away from the state of marriage, family, from the state of family, humans away from the state of being human and notice which came 1st, 1st came the falling away from the faith.
And now we are watching the falling away from the state of being in the United Kingdom.
Once the center of the gospel, Britain this past year.
For the first time in history, the percentage of British people identifying themselves as Christian.
We’re not talking about born again. We’re talking about Christian or pagan or non Christian was below half.
It was the, it’s the minority of British people are now Christian minority at the same time, the same year in the United Kingdom, same place, first time in British first, another first in British history.
The number of Children born outside of marriage was the majority or the ones who are born in a marriage is the minority.
Now, it’s no accident when you change faith, life will start changing. Family will change. Male and female will change.
If you fall away from God, who God is, you’re gonna fall away from whom you are or if you fall away from the creator, you’re gonna fall away from the creation.
You will change. What will this year bring?
I told you the word which means year can also mean change. What are you?
What are you gonna change to?
If you change, you can only change to that which is not truth, that which is away from truth, that which is away from God that’s called sin or a lie.
That’s exactly what happened. The Bible says, avoid associating with a man of change, avoid associating with a world of change.
That doesn’t mean again, we are to be lights to the world, but you cannot partake in what the world’s partaking of.
If you become friends with the world, if you inundate yourself with its entertainment, I’m not saying all entertainment is bad, but what I am saying, a lot of it is becoming demonic.
It’s going to affect you.
If you keep watching something again and again, which would have shocked you years ago, it’s not going to shock you anymore.
Your conscious is going to get tainted.
If you keep watching a counterfeit or a twisted version of what is true.
You’ll stop recognizing what is true.
If you hear a song that’s being sung out of done out of key continuously, continually, you’ll stop hearing that.
And that brings us back to the sanctuary. What was the key element of the sanctuary?
Gold, gold menorah, gold table, gold altar, gold arc. Why? Gold, gold represents number one that, which shines.
It’s brilliant. The things of God shine. They said even the song, we didn’t plan the throne lights.
His is his glory, glory lights up. The word glory fills the earth.
That’s what the that’s what the said. But gold also represents something else.
Gold represents that which does not change. Gold doesn’t age. Gold doesn’t rust, gold doesn’t decay. Gold doesn’t break.
Gold represents that which is unchanging, not temporary, not transitory, not transforming, not transient that which is permanent, immutable, unchangeable.
It’s a shadow of the eternal. That’s why it was in the sanctuary.
That’s why it was in the holy place.
Because the holy place or the whole, especially the holy Holy represent what she sang about. The throne of God.
God is enthroned among the angels. So you have the two angels there.
The Chera that’s a symbol of heaven.
Heaven is unchanging, heaven is immutable heaven, meaning heaven is permanent, lasting forever. Revelation.
21 very end of the Bible says, and the streets of the city were what made of pure gold.
Imagine driving your car on pure gold, gold is the substance. It’s a symbol of the substance of heaven.
The streets are made of gold. What does that mean?
Well, heaven is so awesome, so precious so that even the streets of gold, it’s like, that’s what I say.
Even the like the asphalt, it’s like it’s gold and gold shines and heaven shines.
But also that gold represents forever in earthly terms, heaven is forever. Gold doesn’t change.
Heaven doesn’t change the things of God are unchanging. God says I change, not God does not change Messiah.
And here’s another thing you heard.
I didn’t talk to George before he said, but you heard him say it, I have you hear the other scripture?
Yes. Sure. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. He does not change.
It doesn’t matter what the world does. He does not change. The world is going to change.
Everybody who puts him down is going to be gone.
Every organization is going to be gone one day CNN is going to be gone.
MSNBC is going to be gone. They’re all going to be gone. But Jesus will be, there will be forever.
He’s just as alive and powerful.
Now as he was 2000 years ago, the word of God is unchanging, you know, we change, you know, uh just last week I saw somebody and the Sunday service came who I knew 40 years ago when, when I was Yeah, I wasn’t born yet, but I knew of him.
I knew he was going. No, I was working with disabled Children and he was there.
We were both new, but we were believers and we found, we thought we were working for that, that company.
And I saw his 40 years later. And I’m saying, I said to him, I said, you know, 40 years.
And I said, you know, we can’t even remember what we were thinking about 40 years ago.
But one thing we were the most important thing to us was Jesus. Then he is just as important.
Now, everything else is fades away. But he’s the same. The grass withers. The Bible says the flower fades.
But the word of our God abides forever or he’s a heaven and earth will pass away.
But my words shall not pass away.
Not one jot or the word of God is as alive today as it was 2000 years ago.
That’s the amazing thing. You can look at a newspaper today from yesterday and it’s already old.
The word of God is from 2000 years ago and it speaks to you today about your life. It’s amazing.
The word of God does not change the ways of God do not change and the spirit of God does not change, the goodness of God does not change the things of God do not, heaven does not change, it doesn’t pass away nor the things of God.
Now, there are new approaches, sing a new song to the Lord, new way of, of reaching out.
But the word, the content, the message cannot change, you cannot change.
If you start changing that you are apostle, the outer court, the outer court that had the altar in it had the, had the brazen altar, had the, had the uh the, the labor, the washing place.
That, that’s where that you had the altar. Now, now it corresponds the outside corresponds to man.
That’s where a lot of people could hang out. You couldn’t hang out inside unless you were a priest.
You couldn’t hang in the very unless you were a high priest once a year. That’s where God was.
So the outside was more about earth and heaven and, and sorry earth and man, while the inside was about the, the the dwelling of God heaven notice something.
The altar of sacrifice was on the outside. Messiah didn’t die in heaven. He died on earth.
The court had no gold there because the world is not lasting.
The world is chain transitory, temporary passing.
But the things of God, the substance of heaven, that’s where you have the gold, that’s forever.
It says in first Corinthians 15.
And this is I believe is one of the words you can take as also into this year 58.
Therefore, my beloved brethren be steadfast, be immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord and know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
How are you to be this year? Steadfast immovable? Do we change?
Yes, but only into the image of the eternal. We change into the eternal away from the temporary.
You get it. Yes, we do change.
But we change away from the flesh which is passing away, we change away from the world which is passing away.
We change to that which is never passing away.
