The Holy Stretching
Tuesday, September 5, 2023 – Show and Tell
Our first big school assignment was “Show and Tell.” My friend brought in a Gumby doll, with a leg missing; a stump with a wire sticking out. It felt troubling to see Gumby as an amputee. The teacher asked what happened to Gumby’s leg, and Bobby answered, “I ate it because it tastes like gum.” It’s etched in my mind to this day. It caused me to avoid Show and Tell for the rest of my life. Messiah told the lepers to not only tell but show themselves to the priests. The Bible isn’t simply words about God, it’s God Himself; not just words of truth, it’s Truth itself, God showing, manifesting, revealing Himself, so we can be saved. In the same way, sharing the gospel is Show and Tell. Don’t just tell them about love or the good news, show them. Show them the joy, the new birth, the victory of God in your life. You can spend the rest of your life having nothing to do with Gumby whatsoever, but you have to do Show and Tell. Tell them, yes. But don’t only tell them, show them.
In Hebrew word here, it says then it says nah. Try it. nah. your curtains. Stretch.
Titan, refined. Part of god calling you to higher ground is stretching.
Being stretched, you know, being stretched and also also focused and, you know, uh-uh, a stretching that 10 is gonna be a tight 10.
You know, you want a big 10. It’s gonna be tight. God wants your life tight. You wanna be focused.
You wanna be self controlled. You wanna be disciplined so that god can do greater things.
And it means being stretched. a great calling. Greater things means greater stretching.
Stretching our time, stretching our ability stretching what I have.
The one who was faithful in little will be faithful in much. And then it says spare not. spare not.
In other words, don’t hold back on this enlargement. Don’t hold back.
Don’t hold back when you say we’re all building this bigger tent. Don’t hold back. Put things into it.
Well, your calling is the bigger is to be the bigger town. Don’t hold back.
The Bible says as you sow to god, you’ll reap to god.
Don’t hold back or you’re not gonna reap as much. So give, give in the same measure.
Give, not I’m not speaking primarily financially that has a part in god.
I’m talking about in everything god has called you. Give to it.
Give to his purposes and cast your seeds, you know, a great missionary named William Carey.
He he helped open the doors to China for the gospel.
He had a saying that also, you know, it’s not the Bible, but it is based on the Bible.
But god actually used that in my life. He said, attempt great things for god.
expect great things from god. Length in your cords, he says. You know, a tent has a cord.
lengthen your court lengthen your now it’s lengthen. He said, brought him. He said stretch. And now he says lengthen.
Great things have to have length. In other words, they have to keep going.
You know, you can’t you’ve got a calling. You put your you cannot stop.
You cannot give up on the calling.
The the 1 in this in this race, it’s not like the Olympics.
Well, there are some race like that. It’s not about how fast you run or how impressive you run.
It’s how long. Keep going.
No matter what, the enemy wants anything you’d anything to stop you, he’ll do it.
anything you’re discouraged, you, he’ll do it. Don’t stop.
Consistent action in god every day, every day Over the long run, does great things.
Most powerful. The one who’s the most powerful is the and the lord is the one who keeps running.
Keep going. Keep going every day. You fall down. Get up. Keep going. And strengthen your pegs.
These are the pegs that hold the tent. Why why do you have to strengthen the pegs?
Because a bigger tent needs stronger pegs because it’s big and the wind goes that it’s gonna pull it up unless they’re strong.
So what what does that mean? Pay it means this.
It’s not just if you wanna go larger, greater, You have to go also deeper, deeper.
The pegs go deeper, the stronger the tent.
The deeper you go in god, the stronger your walk is, the stronger you are.
The deep what do you mean? Deeper in prayer. Don’t just pray.
You’re going to just put in your time. get into it deeper in faith, deeper in the word.
Don’t just read the word. Let it really sink deep into you.
and go with it deeper, the one who does it deeper.
The deeper you go and your love for god, the deeper you go, the higher you go, deeper, higher, broader, greater, deeper that says I pray that you be rooted and grounded in love.
