Signs Of The Coming Apocalypse | Jonathan Cahn Sermon
Signs Of The Coming Apocalypse | Jonathan Cahn Sermon
The Apostle Paul foretold that the Antichrist—the man of perdition, often referred to as the Beast—would declare himself God in the Holy Place. For the Jewish people, the “Holy Place” refers unequivocally to the Temple or the Temple Mount. This discussion will focus exclusively on the Book of Revelation’s account of the end times, with occasional references to other Scriptures for context. The primary question we aim to address is: Can we observe signs of where we are in the prophetic timeline?
The First Sign: The Sign of Numbers
At the time the Bible was written, the world’s population was estimated at around 188 million. In stark contrast, today, individual nations like China far surpass that figure. Historical milestones in population growth provide striking context:
- 1803: The global population reached 1 billion.
- 1927: It doubled to 2 billion, taking over 120 years.
- Today: The Earth is home to over 8 billion people.
Revelation 7:9 describes a “great multitude that no one could count,” an image that resonates powerfully today, as more people are alive now than at any previous point in history. Revelation 9:16 also mentions an army of 200 million soldiers—an unimaginable figure during John’s time. Yet in the modern era, with nations like China, this is not only conceivable but realistic.
The Second Sign: The Sign of Fire
Fire imagery is pervasive throughout the Book of Revelation. For example:
- Revelation 8:7: “The first angel blew his trumpet, and hail and fire mixed with blood were thrown upon the Earth. A third of the Earth was burned, along with a third of the trees and all the green grass.”
- 2 Peter 3:7: The Earth is “reserved for fire” on the day of judgment, marking the end of the old creation.
These descriptions align with a stark reality: For the first time in human history, we possess the technology to destroy the planet. This unprecedented capability emerged in the 20th century with the advent of nuclear weapons, first demonstrated by the United States in Hiroshima. Today, nine nations—including Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran—hold nuclear capabilities, with tensions escalating globally.
The Third Sign: Falling Stars and Wormwood
Revelation 8:10-11 describes a “great star blazing like a torch” falling from the sky, poisoning a third of the Earth’s waters. This star is named Wormwood. Could this refer to:
- A meteor or asteroid?
- A nuclear missile?
Both interpretations align with the text’s imagery. The modern connection to Chernobyl is particularly compelling. The name “Chernobyl” translates to “Wormwood” in Russian, and the region became synonymous with catastrophic nuclear contamination. Adding to the symbolism, the town of Chernobyl features a Wormwood Star Memorial, which depicts an angel blowing a trumpet—directly echoing the passage from Revelation.
Conclusion: Are We Witnessing the Fulfillment of Revelation?
The signs described in the Book of Revelation—unprecedented population growth, the advent of destructive firepower, and celestial events—are more plausible in our era than ever before. While interpretations may vary, these events invite us to reflect on the prophetic timeline and our preparedness for the ultimate fulfillment of God’s plan.
Remember, “Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near” (Revelation 1:3).
Stay vigilant, remain prayerful, and trust in the Lord as we navigate these profound times.
