Holding On to Hope When Life Feels Heavy – Lysa TerKeurst Daily Devotional for October 22, 2026
If your heart feels tired today, you’re not alone. Maybe you’re trying to hold your family together, show up at work, manage the bills, and still be “okay” for everyone else. Under that carefully managed smile, you might be wondering if God really sees the weight you’re carrying. Today’s devotional is an invitation to exhale, to bring your honest heart before the Lord, and to remember that you are deeply loved, fully seen, and never forgotten. God is not asking you to be strong enough; He is asking you to let Him be strong in you.
Anchored in God’s Steadfast Love
“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14, NIV) This verse was spoken to Israel when the Red Sea blocked their path and the Egyptian army closed in behind them. They had no plan, no escape route, and no strength to fix anything. Yet God wasn’t limited by what they could see. He was already making a way through the impossible. Being “still” here isn’t passive; it’s a posture of trust. It’s choosing to believe that when you can’t see a solution, God is already at work, arranging what you cannot yet see, parting waters you don’t even know exist.
Living with Quiet Confidence in a Loud World
Every day, you and I are bombarded with messages that say: “Do more. Be more. Prove your worth.” But the gospel tells a different story. Your value is not tied to your productivity, your bank account, your relationship status, or the success of your kids. Your worth is anchored in Christ alone. When anxiety tries to write the script for your day, pause and ask, “What is actually true according to God’s Word?” Then respond to that truth. Maybe today that looks like offering a gentle answer when you feel irritated, stopping to pray before responding to an upsetting email, or simply breathing in God’s presence while you drive. Small, faith-filled choices slowly reshape our hearts, teaching us to live from God’s approval, not for it.
Strengthening Faith in the Middle of Questions
Father, today I bring you the places where my faith feels fragile. You see my doubts, my disappointments, and the prayers I’m afraid to pray again. I surrender the timelines I’ve created, the outcomes I’ve tried to control, and the fears I’ve hidden. Grow in me a faith that doesn’t depend on perfect circumstances but rests in Your unchanging character. When my mind starts racing with “what ifs,” gently turn my eyes back to Your promises. Help me feed my faith more than my fears. Teach me to treasure Your presence more than immediate answers, and let every waiting season become holy ground where I meet You in a deeper way.
Covering Our Homes with Peace
Lord, I lift my family and my closest relationships to You. You know every tension, every unspoken hurt, every silent tear. I ask You to flood our home with Your peace. Heal broken communication, soften hardened hearts, and restore what feels beyond repair. Guard our words so that what we speak builds up instead of tearing down. For my spouse, children, parents, and friends, I pray Your protection, Your wisdom, and Your comfort. Where there is distance, bring reconciliation. Where there is loneliness, bring companionship. Let our home be a place where Your presence is felt, Your love is experienced, and Your name is honored.
Health, Healing, and Renewed Strength
Gracious God, You know every ache in our bodies and every heaviness in our hearts. For the one battling sickness, chronic pain, or fatigue, I ask for Your healing touch. Steady minds that are overwhelmed with worry. Bring calm to anxious thoughts and rest to the exhausted. Grant wisdom to doctors, clarity in treatment decisions, and perseverance to walk through hard days. Strengthen immune systems, restore sleep, and renew energy. Heal emotional wounds—disappointments, betrayals, and grief that lingers in quiet places. Let Your peace guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, and remind us that whether healing comes quickly or over time, we are never walking this journey alone.
Work, Finances, and Divine Provision
Lord, you see the stack of bills, the uncertainty at work, the job search that feels endless, and the dreams we’re not sure will
