Holding On To Hope When Your Heart Is Tired – Lysa TerKeurst Daily Devotional October 21, 2026
If your heart feels a little worn out today, you’re not alone. You might be showing up for your life, doing the right things, smiling in all the right places, yet quietly wondering, “How much longer can I keep going like this?” On days like October 21, 2026, the calendar feels ordinary, but your soul knows you’re in the middle of something heavy and holy all at once. God sees that. He sees the tears you can’t explain, the decisions you’re afraid to make, and the questions you’re scared to ask out loud. Today, let’s invite the Lord into all of it—your faith, your family, your health, your work, your finances, and your future—and let His Word steady what feels shaky.
Anchored By Truth When Feelings Run Wild
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” (Psalm 34:18, ESV) This verse is not a vague promise; it’s God’s personal whisper to you today. He doesn’t wait until you’re strong, cheerful, or “over it” before He comes close. He draws near right in the middle of your heartbreak, your anxiety, your disappointment, and your confusion. Being “crushed in spirit” sounds dramatic until you’ve lived it—and maybe that’s exactly where you are right now. God doesn’t shame you for feeling that way. Instead, He leans in, lifts you up, and reminds you that broken does not mean abandoned. Nearness is His answer to your pain, and His nearness is your hope.
When Life Feels Like Too Much
So many of us carry invisible loads—marriages under pressure, kids struggling, bills stacked higher than our peace. You might feel guilty for being tired, as if real Christians never get worn out. But spiritual maturity isn’t pretending everything is fine; it’s learning to run to Jesus first when it’s not. Today, pause and breathe this in: You are allowed to be weary, but you are not forsaken. Practically, this may mean taking five quiet minutes in your car before work, opening your Bible app at lunch, or turning off the noise tonight and simply whispering, “Help me, Lord.” Small, honest steps toward God open big spaces for Him to move. Choose one burden you’ve been carrying alone and deliberately hand it to Him today—say it out loud, name it, and then invite Jesus into it.
Strengthening Faith In The Middle Of The Wait
Father, today I bring my faith journey before You. Some days I feel strong and confident in Your promises; other days doubt slips in quietly and tells me nothing will ever change. I confess the times I’ve trusted my fears more than Your faithfulness. Lord, grow my faith where it is weak. Teach me to trust You not only when I understand the plan, but especially when I don’t. Help me hunger for Your Word and recognize Your voice over every other voice in my life. Show me how to surrender control—again and again—believing that You are good, You are wise, and You are working even when I can’t see it. Align my desires with Your heart, and let today be a step forward in spiritual growth and deeper intimacy with You.
Covering Our Homes With God’s Peace
Lord, I lift my family and my closest relationships to You right now. You see every unspoken tension, every misunderstanding, every silent ache. Bring Your peace into our home in ways we cannot manufacture on our own. Heal broken communication between spouses, between parents and children, between siblings and friends. Where there has been harshness, plant gentleness. Where there is distance, build bridges of grace. Protect our families from division, bitterness, and unforgiveness. Let our homes become places where Your presence is felt—where love is spoken, apologies are offered, and mercy is given freely. Guide us to pray together, laugh together, and stand together, even when life feels uncertain and hard.
Health, Healing, And Quiet Strength
Jesus, You know every pain—seen and unseen—within my body and my emotions. For those walking through illness, chronic pain, or scary diagnoses, I ask for Your healing touch. Strengthen their bodies and restore what is broken. For those battling anxiety, depression, or emotional exhaustion, wrap them in Your comfort and speak peace to their racing thoughts. Teach us to care for our bodies
