Hear God in Your Everyday Life
Hear God in Your Everyday Life
Do you ever struggle to hear God’s voice? Maybe you’re facing an important decision, so you pray: Lord, I want to do Your will. What should I do? Then, a thought comes to mind, and you wonder—Was that God speaking? Or was it just my own emotions? Was it the Holy Spirit, or just my late-night pizza talking?
Wouldn’t it be incredible if you could ask God a question and receive a clear, undeniable answer? Imagine if God responded as directly as a Magic 8 Ball. Some of you might remember those—you’d shake it, ask a question, and it would reveal an answer. Should I break up with this person? “Without a doubt.” Should I send that angry text? “My reply is no.” Should I serve at church? “It is certain.”
Of course, hearing from God isn’t like shaking a Magic 8 Ball. But the good news is—you can hear His voice.
Understanding God’s Promises
Right now, we’re in a message series called He Promises, where we explore the unshakable promises of Jesus.
- Last week, we talked about His promise: Jesus will always love you.
- Next week, we’ll discuss another powerful truth—He will never leave you nor forsake you.
- Today, we focus on this incredible promise: You can know the voice of Jesus.
The title of today’s message is Hearing God’s Voice. Let’s pray:
“Holy Spirit, help us hear Your voice clearly. Guide us to know Your will and follow Your direction. Speak, Lord—we are listening. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Is It Difficult to Hear from God?
Let’s be honest—sometimes hearing from God feels complicated. How do you know if it’s really Him?
I remember when I was a brand-new Christian. I joined a small Bible study in an old brick church with just a handful of people. One night, as we were praying, a guy in the group suddenly stopped and said, “I just heard from God!”
Curious, we asked, “What did He say?”
With wide eyes, he declared, “God told me to run headfirst into that brick wall as hard as I can.”
I hesitated and said, “Are you sure?”
“Absolutely,” he insisted.
So, he took a deep breath, backed up, and ran full-speed—straight into the wall.
(True story. And yes, I realize saying “this is a true story” makes you question all my other stories!)
