It’s a special blessing to gather with fellow believers and reflect not only on what God is doing in our lives but also on the incredible story of America. Our nation is about to celebrate its 250th birthday—a reminder of the unique privilege we hold as Americans, especially considering our deep spiritual roots. As we pray for spiritual awakening, we remember that the very fabric of our country is interwoven with the Christian faith. The founders saw this land as a providence from God, a gift to be stewarded for His purposes.
The True Roots of Freedom in America
Many scholars and public voices try to rewrite or ignore the spiritual beginnings of this nation, but when you delve into the honest history, it’s unmistakable: faith played a central role. Our rise as a nation is not rooted in mere philosophy or secular ideology but in the conviction that our liberties and rights come directly from God. The founding fathers, regardless of their personal expressions of faith, understood that to truly thrive, people must acknowledge dependence upon their Creator.
This isn’t just a Christian view—this is historical fact. Men like George Washington, John Adams, and Samuel Adams saw the events of their time through the lens of biblical truth. The ideals of the American Revolution—life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness—are ultimately only sustainable when people understand that these are gifts endowed by God, not by kings, parliaments or human institutions.

In the parable of the minas (or pounds), Jesus told a story to correct misunderstandings about His kingdom. The people hoped He would immediately establish a political kingdom, but Jesus wanted them—and us—to see that before His return, He expects His followers to be faithfully engaged in His work.
Imagine a nobleman preparing to leave on a journey, entrusting his servants with resources, expecting them to use what was given to increase the value of his estate. Some multiplied what they were given, others returned just what they had, and one even hid his gift out of fear. Upon the nobleman’s return, faithful and fruitful servants were rewarded, while the unfaithful lost even what they had. The lesson is clear: God has entrusted each of us with something valuable, and He expects us to invest—our gifts, our time, our lives—for His glory.
Faithfulness Over Fame: The Real Metric of Success
In the Christian life, God isn’t looking for celebrity or outward achievement. He’s looking for faithfulness. You may never preach to millions like Billy Graham or lead influential revivals like George Whitefield, but you can be faithful right where you are. God sees every act of service, every prayer, and every sacrifice—even when nobody else does. And in God’s economy, faithfulness always bears fruit.
Examples of spiritual giants—past and present—show us that there’s no age limit or retirement in God’s kingdom. Whether you’re beginning your journey or in your later years, there are opportunities every day to make an impact that will resound in eternity.
