How to Discern Between True and False Prophets

This is in the Bible, y’all—Satan himself transforms into an angel of light. It’s no surprise, then, that his ministers can also disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. This doesn’t mean they’ve given their lives to Jesus; it’s simply the mask they wear to deceive you. The Bible warns us that these are still ministers of Satan. As it says, “Therefore, it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.”

This is a powerful message, everyone. Hey, y’all, it’s Pastor Stephanie here, and today we’ll dive into a teaching that I believe is incredibly timely—not only for this season but for seasons to come. We’re discussing how to discern between true and false prophets. The Bible speaks extensively about this, and Jesus addressed it often. It’s more necessary now than ever because we’re entering a season of great shaking, and many may call it exposure. However, this “exposure” isn’t about Satan’s influence; it’s the light revealing what was hidden in darkness, bringing truth into the open.

This exposure is all about revealing the fruits of a person’s life. In today’s world, with social media and the internet, it’s easier than ever to connect with someone, but it can be difficult to judge a minister by their fruits if we don’t know their true character behind the scenes. Sometimes, things come to the surface to help us understand what a person is really like—both behind the pulpit and outside of it.

It’s important to remember that the enemy doesn’t always orchestrate exposure. He thrives in darkness and looks for opportune moments, but exposure reveals his kingdom. The concern, however, is that during times of shaking, some may start to feel that they can no longer trust the church. They might decide to stop going to church altogether and stay at home. This is where deception creeps in. The Bible clearly says not to forsake the gathering of the brethren. So, just because you discover a false ministry or a false prophet doesn’t mean you should give up on the church entirely.

The true church is a beautiful thing, and it’s part of God’s plan. He is preparing His bride—the church—and the shaking is happening to purify it. Anything that’s been contaminated will be uprooted.

Now, let’s go deeper into this teaching, which is firmly grounded in the Word of God. Even though the Bible doesn’t contain everything God will say, it is the foundation for everything He speaks. If what you believe the Spirit of God told you doesn’t align with Scripture, that’s a sign of deception. The Bible makes a distinction between two types of words from God: the Rhema and the Logos.

The Rhema is the specific, spoken word of God. For example, you might not find in the Bible that God is calling you to move to Japan, but when you look at your current life situation, you may feel a deep sense of direction and purpose that aligns with God’s character. In contrast, the Logos is the written Word of God, which provides the foundation for all divine direction.

Let’s say, for instance, you’re living in Cleveland, and you feel jealous of people in Japan, believing they’re living the life you want. Then, one day, you suddenly feel God is telling you to move to Japan. Now, while the Bible doesn’t directly address that specific move, by examining your situation and understanding God’s character, you can discern whether or not this is truly the Lord guiding you.
