Accountability & Stewardship – Stephanie Ike Okafor

How Can We Pray For You? Have you signed up yet?

Hallelujah! I am truly blessed to be here today.

I have so much love for Pastors Henry and Alex! Honestly, I believe that when God sent us into the world, there must have been a mix-up—He sent them to Australia and me to Nigeria. But in reality, we are truly sisters at heart. I am beyond grateful for the bond we share.

If you were blessed yesterday, can I hear an “Amen” in this place? Amen! Amen! Amen! Yesterday was a time of abundance, filled with richness and depth. Every time I come to Nashville, I feel like a child again. But it’s not just about what I get to pour into others—it’s also about what I receive in return. This place always refreshes my spirit.

My husband and I just got married on September 4th, and let me tell you, there are so many things people don’t mention about marriage! For instance, getting used to calling someone “my husband” takes time—it’s still surreal to say, “That is my husband.” And some days, you might even forget to wear your wedding ring—like I did today! But despite all of that, marriage is such a beautiful blessing.

Now, while you remain standing, let’s turn to the Word of the Lord. We will read from Luke 16:19-26. Afterward, we will pray, and then you may be seated.

I am excited about what God is about to do in and through your life. As the Holy Spirit revealed this message to me, it deeply ministered to my own heart. It exposed areas in my life where God is calling me to a deeper level of surrender.

Let’s begin with the passage:

Jesus said,

“There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen, living in luxury every single day. But at his gate lay a beggar named Lazarus, covered in sores. Lazarus longed to be fed with the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table. He wasn’t asking for gold, silver, or a house—he simply desired the leftover scraps. Yet, even those were denied to him. Instead, stray dogs came and licked his sores.

“In time, the beggar died and was carried by angels to Abraham’s bosom. The rich man also died and was buried. From the torment of Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham in the distance, with Lazarus at his side. Crying out, he said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me! Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am suffering in these flames.’

“But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime, you received good things, while Lazarus experienced hardships. Now he is comforted, and you are in anguish. Besides, there is a great chasm between us. Those who wish to cross from here to you cannot, nor can anyone from your side cross over to us.’”

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word. Holy Spirit, only You can glorify Jesus through this message. As we gather in Your presence, seeking Your face, I humble myself so that You may shine through me. I pray that as I speak, You minister to every individual here in a way that brings transformation to their lives.

Holy Spirit, glorify Christ.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

You may be seated.

In this passage, we see the rich man desperately asking Abraham to send Lazarus to dip his finger in water and cool his tongue. But this raises an interesting question: Why is there water in heaven? After all, people in heaven aren’t going on hikes or getting thirsty like we do on earth.

But this man wasn’t asking for water in the way we understand it.

I love God so much because everything in creation is a reflection of something deeper in the spiritual realm. Water has always been a powerful symbol of the Holy Spirit. Yesterday, Pastor Henry touched on this, and we see it as far back as Genesis, where the connection between water and the Spirit of God is first revealed.
