Messiah, Barabbas & the Mystery of the Two Goats | Jonathan Cahn Sermon | Resurrection Day 2025
Messiah, Barabbas & the Mystery of the Two Goats
Jonathan Cahn shares one of the most beautiful, important, meaningful, central, and powerful mysteries of the Bible, of God, of you, from the mystery of Isaac’s offering, to the mystery of the Passover lamb, to that of the first fruit and the redemption of the son, to the two goats of Yom Kippur, to the mystery of Barabbas, to God, to Messiah, to you, and your redemption. Jonathan Cahn shares on Resurrection Day.
Barabbas Is Each of Us: A Deeper Revelation of Abraham, Isaac, and the Lamb
Barabbas represents all of us. Each of us, in a spiritual sense, is Barabbas. While we often think the Messiah entered into our lives, the deeper truth is that we were born into His.
Let me share with you a profound truth—a glimpse into the divine riches of God that many never see. It all begins with a moment when God speaks to His servant Abraham.
The Test of Faith: Abraham and Isaac
In Genesis 22, Scripture says:
“After these things, God tested Abraham and said to him, ‘Abraham!’ And he said, ‘Here I am.’ Then He said, ‘Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains which I will show you.’”
But God never truly intended for Abraham to sacrifice Isaac. This was a divine test of faith. Isaac was the miracle child—the fulfillment of God’s promise, through whom a great nation would be born. And now, Abraham is asked to lay it all down.
A Journey to Moriah: The Son Carries the Wood
Abraham rose early, saddled his donkey, took two servants and his beloved son, and set out toward Moriah. Isaac, the son of the promise, rides the donkey—just as Jesus, the Son of God, would one day ride into Jerusalem.
On the third day, Abraham looked up and saw the mountain from a distance. He told his servants, “Stay here with the donkey; the boy and I will go over there to worship, and then we will return.” This was Abraham’s declaration of faith.
Then Abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on Isaac’s shoulders—just as God the Father would place the wooden cross on Jesus. Isaac carried the wood up the mountain, symbolizing the future Messiah’s journey to Calvary.
